Lighthearted of course!

But i'm sitting browsing my newsfeed and my local buy and sell pages are going crazy for these Hatchimal toys, particularly ++ posts requesting the Toys R Us exclusive one: Owlicorn.

There are people selling raffle tickets for £10 a ticket via Paypal for a chance to win one.

There are people willing to trade brand new bikes and computer consoles for one.

I saw one get sold last night for almost £200! For a daft toy that looks absolutely rubbish after it hatches.

There are lots and lots of competitive sad stories being posted by parents, too, saying how much one of these toys would mean to their children this year and how their children are more deserving of the toy than the previous posters' children. It's just madness.

I have honestly never known such a demand for a Christmas toy before now.

I'm seriously considering flogging mine and buying my dream mansion with the profits. I'm sure my daughter would understand Grin

Lighthearted or not, if there's something your DD would like more that you can't afford it's a no-brainier. Sell and buy the thing. Or if your family need things/could have a massively better Christmas or 2017 with the money.
Why not take advantage of parental festive hysteria? :)

It's bonkers isnt it?

I would be very tempted but I don't think I could actually do it.

DC sorry. Made a gender assumption!

Yanbu. I don't get it. My 6 year old wants one. I pointed out that once hatched it's just a furby and I'm not paying 200 quid for a furby. She won't be getting one. She may have a moment of disappointment. I can't understand parents who move heaven and earth to buy something; just say "sorry they are all sold out". Easy!

Vanillamanilla1 · 04/12/2016 10:54

I got 2 no probs for my manager . He wanted a couple for his children
I'm gutted I should have charged him doubleGrin

miserablesod · 04/12/2016 10:56

My daughter wanted one, can't find one. Explained the situation to her but said if she still wants one after Christmas i'll get it as an early birthday present (birthday in March). She is fine with that (shes 9).

There is no way i'd be going berserk for one. Its a toy, isn't it just like a furby but in an egg?! My daughter has a furby and doesn't even play with it Confused They'll all be forgotton about in approximately 4 weeks from now Grin

But yes, yanbu. If some mug wants to buy one for silly money let them crack on and buy yours.

Fairenuff · 04/12/2016 11:27

All the parents need to do is leave a letter from Santa to say that he is patiently waiting for the egg to be laid and as soon as it is, one of his elves will pop it over.

In the meantime here is another toy that Santa hopes you will enjoy. Keep being good, keep being patient and keep your eyes open for that precious egg.

Then get one in the January sales (or maybe never if your child forgets about it).

Justwhy · 04/12/2016 11:29

They honestly look so shit as well. Really cheap and nasty!

I got one on Amazon Italy ages ago, the prices were still the RRP but now these have also gone up, I wish I had bought a few and sold them for inflated prices! Next year!

My niece had hers for her birthday and she loved it but that was a couple of weeks ago and I think she's already over it. They are cute though.

ChocolateButton15 · 04/12/2016 11:45

If your child wouldn't be devastated I would actually sell it. I've seen a video of a hatched one and they look absolutely rubbish! I know someone that brought one then sold it because she had seen what an opened one does. I think by March they will be a lot cheaper to buy because the demand will be gone.

icy121 · 04/12/2016 11:47

SELL IT

ragdoll700 · 04/12/2016 11:47

I got one ages ago for less than RRP for my 5 year old I had it on pre order and cancelled it and she wouldn't stop talking about it so pre ordered again when Smyths had their codes out and got one I agree its not a great toy esp for the price and all will be over the second it hatches although she does have some of those little live pets that you can record your voice on and they repeat what you have said she loves this feature and this can do this too so maybe it wont be discarded after 5 mins. I think its madness the prices people are paying for them and defo would not pay that Id tell my daughter Santa only had so many and she would have to choose something else.

lottieandmia · 04/12/2016 11:51

My friend posted on Facebook that she had found a lot of them in Spain. I would imagine they will be easy to get hold of after Christmas. Luckily my dd didn't ask for one! In fact my kids have never requested sell out toys. I'm very lucky!

Maudlinmaud · 04/12/2016 11:57

It's exactly the same hype that was around the Elsa doll two years ago. I don't know any parents who have actually managed to get one. I would sell it and make a tidy profit if your dc isn't really after it.

dailymailarecunts · 04/12/2016 12:05

We have one that I got ages ago - I genuinely wish I could flog mine too, I know it's going to be a one second wonder and get forgotten about. Ds is so utterly confident santa is bringing it for him though that I don't want to risk it. Why oh why don't they anticipate this and make more, they must of had some idea this would happen!

lottieandmia · 04/12/2016 13:04

I think they do it on purpose personally!
