Why so angry?

21 days till Christmas. Angry about the shitty made up traditions? Angry about people making donations in lieu of sending Christmas cards? Angry about the nativity? Angry about the MIL taking over, the stingy SIL, the narcissistic DM...?

It might even feel good!

(And for the love of god, please don't mention Christmas Pyjamas in a hamper or Elf on the Shelf!) Xmas Grin

It's nearly my birthdayGrin

My ten year old totally knows that Father Christmas is real and she's very interested in speculating endlessly about how he manages the logistics of it all. Somebody tried telling her that he might not come to our house because we don't have a chimney, and she patiently explained that he has a set of master keys to open all the doors in case the chimney is too small or nonexistent. She is very earnest and she has an answer for everything.

She also knows that not all the Santas you see out and about are real. He pays various people to impersonate him because he can't be everywhere. But one of the department store Santas IS the real McCoy, apparently, and she has a pretty good idea which one it is. Grin

I love her soooo much!

Stitchosaurus · 04/12/2016 10:15

I just love everything about Christmas - everything feels cosy, happy and full of excitement Xmas Smile

We had a crap festive day out yesterday but actually I don't care, because DS still enjoyed himself and I had mulled wine so it can't be that bad right?!

Love being with my family, stuffing my face and drinking in the morning Xmas Grin

daisygirlmac · 04/12/2016 10:15

I start mat leave Christmas Eve and I'm sooooo excited!! Going to get the tree today, this year we have a bigger car so can get a bigger tree - DH and I always end up with a gigantic tree squished between us in the car with him wedged in somehow Grin we're having a lazy Sunday morning watching Christmas food programmes and it's making me both hungry and excited for Christmas dinner

Nishky · 04/12/2016 10:15

Not having to get up at 5 to leave for work while everyone else is still in bed - for a whole week

I really miss huge family Christmases that we used to have. So I am thankful that we shared those and enjoy the fact that as it is just us it can be much more relaxed

GravyAndShite · 04/12/2016 10:19

mousynon if we could bottle and distribute your new approach there really could be peace on earth and goodwill to all women and men and children!

The smell of the little plastic tree (seriously - it reminds me of when I was a kid), turkey & sage & onion sarnies, reminiscing about Christmas as a child, home-made mice pies & jam tarts, watching my little ones open their pressies...

pithivier · 04/12/2016 10:24

I love my kids, SiL and DiLs for many reasons. One of which is, they can all cook a brilliant roast dinner. Because all of my family are shift workers, we get 3 Christmas dinners. I am both shallow and greedy.

WorraLiberty · 04/12/2016 10:27

Oooh I can't pick what I love about Christmas.

I love it all. It's my favourite time of year! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Mumofazoo · 04/12/2016 10:28

I love every little thing about Christmas. I love how cosy and magical our home and village looks. I love the wood burner every day and night. I love the endless baking and making a gingerbread house. I love how excited my kids are getting. I love watching endless cheesy Christmas films. I love Christmas shopping with my dh and getting festive hot chocolate together. I just love Christmas Grin

thecatsarecrazy · 04/12/2016 10:32

I'm looking forward to having some actual time off. On maternity leave all 3of my pregnancies have been over Christmas so nice to have time off shame I can't have a drink but nevermind.

Purplebluebird · 04/12/2016 10:35

I am so happy to go home to Norway to celebrate Christmas with my family, and see my friends too. I will spend Christmas with the people I love the most (including my other half and our son). I don't care about anything else.

youarenotkiddingme · 04/12/2016 10:35

I enjoyed making the Lego train track and a santas workshop with Ds this morning to go around the Christmas tree! He then made a sliding gate using his motor stuff and we added some of his artic set.

TeamLogan · 04/12/2016 10:36

Me too diddl! Smile
And DC have got me a lovely bday present. I know because DS2 told me!

Christmas itself is making me nervous but I'm taking DC to London the week before. Can wait. I'm hoping the south bank will look magical.

BakeOffBiscuits · 04/12/2016 10:42

It's my fav time of the year too....

The lights.
Spending time with family and friends(which I loveShock)
The food and wine.

LilyRose16 · 04/12/2016 10:47

Gravy thank you, wise words! This thread has definitely cheered me up and made me look forward to it all a bit more!

Oyster loving your work, pushchair, alcohol and German market sound like a plan Grin

YouTheCat · 04/12/2016 10:57

Love our quiet, food-filled Christmas. No stress. We get up and open presents then I get the frying pan fired up for our traditional bacon sandwiches. Then the ex takes us to visit our ds (he lives in residential accommodation) and we get to watch him open his gifts. Christmas always used to be too much for him but it's nice and low key at his place.

I get the meat and veg prepped on Christmas Eve whilst drinking sherry and it's just a matter of bunging it all together. I always bake loads at Christmas so there's plenty of lovely things to eat. Spend the rest of the day eating and dozing and watching crap tv. Grin

gamerwidow · 04/12/2016 11:00

I love everything about Christmas. I've had heart Xmas extra on the car radio since November Grin highlights for me are the school play, my DDs utter joy in all things Xmas, watching Xmas films with DD, singing carols, the food, time off work and having my family all together on Christmas Day. We laugh so much its brilliant.

ArcticMumkey · 04/12/2016 11:02

It's my baby's first Christmas, this time last year I was 8 months pregnant and terrified! We hung her special bauble on the tree yesterday and she's obsessed with tinsel (who needs baby sensory?!)Christmas dinner will be a combined affair with both mine and DHs sides of the family so no worries about dashing off to try and see everyone in 1 day.Oh and BREAD SAUCE!

TheSconeOfStone · 04/12/2016 11:02

Week off with the kids hanging out with friends, baking and watching films.

Santa train ride.

Christmas at Eden project.

Knowing the kids will love the presents I have brought them.

Singing Christmas songs with the chorus I have recently joined.

Cheese and wine and cheese and wine.

crayfish · 04/12/2016 11:05

Great idea for a thread! I'm really excited to be getting a tree for the first time in seven years, for seeing my DS's face when he sees any Christmas trees and especially for Boxing Day, which we have designated as a day to see nobody, hang out in our PJs and eat what we want to eat. Can't wait.

CwtchesAndCuddles · 04/12/2016 11:06

Went carol singing with church on Friday night, we visited some of the elderly housebound members at home and one in a local nursing home where we sang for all the residents. It was very uplifting to see how happy our visit made people.

Looking forward to seeing ds in his school play, it's a special school and the effort that goes into the concert is amazing. Every parent and teacher WILL cry at some point. That is Christmas to me, not elf on a shelf, chocolate advent calendars or hours of shopping!!!

DailyMailSucksAss · 04/12/2016 11:24

Every single year I make up a mini winter wonderland at home just before xmas and sis will bring her kids. Bro and sil always promise to come, so i cater for them (stockings for kids, fav foods etc), only for them to cancel last minute every time. This year I didn't invite them and so of course this is the year they really want to come Hmm

Also every single year it's me who's left to host xmas day.

GravyAndShite · 04/12/2016 12:01

These are so nice! It's easy to forget all the lovely people enjoying life and enjoying the season - usually I start and join in with threads about problems. Xmas Blush

Loving getting in the spirit and we are going to see the same Santa today that we see every year on this weekend. then on for the hectic madness of Xmas shopping

CwtchesAndCuddles I miss Carol singing I used to love going round the doors!

Xmas Grin? Xmas Sad?
