Lots of my suggestions already taken as I RTT, but still have a couple left.
If you can afford board games, I recommend The Really Nasty Horseracing Game or Qwirkle.
I'm a massive card game fan, so I'd recommend whist, rummy, good morning grandmother, etc.
There's a game my family play. I don't know the name, but this is how you play it.
Firstly EVERYONE writes a set amount of names (say, 5 each) on a slip of paper. Can be real, fictional, etc. When everyone's written their names down, the slips get folded and put into a hat. Then you divide into teams. So if there are 9 of you playing, I'd say 3 groups of 3. It's good to have large-ish teams. So if there's 20 of you, I'd say no more than 3 or 4 teams, but 2 teams would work well.
So then there's these slips of paper in a hat and (let's say 2) teams. Then there are 3 rounds.
Round 1:
Each team takes it in turn.... You nominated 1 person from your team and they have a set amount of time to pick slips out of the hat and DESCRIBE that person to the rest of their team (eg "yellow, Bart's dad", "magician, lightening scar", "just been elected president of USA". If you have absolutely no idea who the name is, you can pass if you're a child, but adults have to struggle on. So you do DESCRIBING.... First name, sounds Russian [everyone = Ivan?] Second name - Mum's hairdressers name [everyone = Johnson]). For every correct guess, throw the slip down and pick out another one.
At the end of the allotted time, it's the next team's turn. Keep alternating (different person from each team's turn) until all the slips are used up.
Once that's done, each team counts the number of slips they've won.
Write that down.
Then ALL the slips get folded up again and put back in the hat.
Then Round 2 is exactly the same thing again, but this time you can only use one word. So using my examples above you might say "Doh" "scar" "president" "Brexit". Or "philospher" "Rowling" "USA" "Spectator".
Again, count up the slips, make a note of the numbers and then put the slips back.
Round 3
Same again, but this time you can only mime/do charades.
It's VERY good fun. Especially as Uncle X only puts sports personalities in, which you've never heard of, your DC put fictional characters in, which none of the adults have ever heard of, etc, etc, etc.
If MN can provide me with a name for this game, I'll be forever grateful!
