...to think Mother Gothal is the worst!

Tangled is on (two small children with hand, foot and mouth, thank heavens for Disney!).

Anyway, I'm watching it and thinking Mother Gothal is the worst of all the Disney baddies. She raises this child, clearly educates her as she can read, write, bake etc, celebrates her birthdays each year, basically does all the things a parent would do. Rapunzel is a well rounded young woman (particularly given the circumstances). But despite all this, she still merrily kills her boyfriend, treats her like dirt and obviously has no feelings for her. How!?!? It would take an incredibly callous individual to not give the slightest inclination after all that time.

And my mother was abusive but I'm not sure she would have stooped to that!

Anyone think a different villain is worse?

I thought The Lion King was basically a reimagining of Hamlet?

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 05/12/2016 04:10

Yes OP. She is The Worst. How do I know this? Because when darling DD teen is on the wind up, being sarky about my contr freakery/lack of parenting skills she starts singing "Mother knows best, take it from your mumsy" at me with a knowing grin HmmGrin

Clandestino · 05/12/2016 05:21

She is the worst. A prime example of a conditional love.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 05/12/2016 05:35

Worst disney villain is Gaston. Starts off as a cartoonish (yes, I know he's a cartoon, but ykwim Grin) villain. But by the time he's got his lynch mob up and running he is genuinely scary. And he stabs the Beast in the back.

That said, he probably has the best song ever. I can't think of any other song that includes expectoration. Not to mention the the fact that he uses antlers as home decoration.

WanderingNotLost it kinda borrows from it , I haven't studied the play myself but there's a dead dad ghost and an evil uncle . The difference (or one of them) I think is hamlets dad is already dead when the play starts and his ghost urges hamlet to get revenge.
In the lion king Simba the fluffy little cub is seen adoring his wonderful loving father and he loves his Uncle Scar and trusts him and is manipulated by him. That's what makes Scar the most evil in my opinion it's not enough just to have the wide eyed trusting child killed but totally mess up his mind first. Tell him it's all his fault , he's done a terrible thing , send him to his death thinking he's a horrible horrible thing and everyone he loves will hate him

I read a very interesting interpretation of the actions of Elsa's parents - seeing as Rapunzel, and Elsa and Anna are pretty much accepted to be cousins, it could be that Elsa and Anna's parents remember that their niece was kidnapped due to her magical hair. So, they tell Elsa to hide her ability because they have experienced what can happen if people find out!

KickAssAngel · 06/12/2016 02:35

Snow White's step mother sends her into the forest to have her heart cut out, and then tries to kill her by poison.

Is it snow white or sleeping beauty where the step-mother turns into a dragon? That's also pretty bad.

Wifflewaffles · 06/12/2016 06:48

I don't think that the Frozen parents are the same people as the Tarzan parents. Tarzan is set in Victorian times, they have projections and photographs. I think that Frozen is set in an earlier time period.

CanaryFish · 06/12/2016 09:25

I think Elsa's parents didn't know what to do with her and were afraid the people would turn on her and try and kill her for being dangerous and cursed.
I think they were awful parents to Anna in that they never explained to her or even made up a reason for Elsa not being allowed play with her anymore

CanaryFish · 06/12/2016 09:35

Also actually... I blame the trolls too they didn't do a very good job explaining Elsas magic , pity they didn't sing their song about love fixing everything then eh

MommaGee · 06/12/2016 11:22

Sorry Canary but you can't blame the trolls, they're too cute!!

Rap didn't get kidnapped for her hair tho did she? Dad stole some veg for mom and stupidly agreed to handing over the first born cos he's a pillock

Soubriquet · 06/12/2016 11:36

There's a theory about the trolls actually

Hans was all sweet and loving in the beginning

When the trolls find out Anna is engaged and really want her to be with Kristoff, they enchant Hans to become a dick so that Anna and Kristoff stay together.

KickAssAngel · 06/12/2016 13:00

Nah - Hans was love bombing her. And she'd grown up in such an emotional starved environment that she fell for it.

BrightonBelleCat · 06/12/2016 13:15

I read that if you notice Hans never takes off his gloves because like Elsa he is also hiding something.

Bluesrunthegame · 06/12/2016 13:19

This Mother G sounds like Miss Haversham in Dickens' Great Expectations. Estella is fed, clothed, educated, but all emotion is stamped on and she has a difficult adulthood as a result.

RentANDBills · 06/12/2016 13:34

I have a Disney playlist for the baby and one of the songs is "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast.
I disagree with Gaston being a bad guy, I think he was bought up from a very early age to be adored, is constantly being told that he's amazing and that everyone lurves him so his arrogance is born from that.
I think he's the product of very indulgent parents and an adoring, poorly educated fan club.

RentANDBills · 06/12/2016 13:36

Yes yes to Elsa's parents being awful - they are the ones that taught her the "conceal, don't feel" mantra.
Fancy allowing your eldest daughter to isolate herself like that and develop extreme anxiety - and allowing your youngest daughter to spend her childhood growing up alone, without anyone to play with in a big empty castle. Bastards.

HairsprayBabe · 06/12/2016 13:54

I agree Matilda Gaston is the worst because he so real. He rounds up a lynch mob to attack something he has no knowledge of just because is different.

Thinks he is god's gift to women and can't understand why anyone might not find him attractive/perfect.

He forces himself on Belle and gets aggressive when she isn't interested.

He thinks women are weird when they are interested in educating themselves.

And yet because he looks the part the whole town fawn after him. Belle had a very lucky escape becoming the beast's prisoner if you ask me.

Reminds me of someone from my past...
