To not want to be social?

SalehSalesSaleb · 02/12/2016 18:27

Really like my housemates and had semi-planned to have dinner with them tonight (not really - they are cooking for a friend but had casually invited me to join). I am unwashed, greasy hair and in bed and don't feel well, feeling quite scared of having to be social and don't really want to see anyone Sad Pretended to be asleep when they knocked but now paranoid this is incredibly obvious and see-through - am I a massive freak?? I really can't face it though

Fwiw I have recently started on anxiety meds (they don't know this) and experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. I'm also stressed with work and don't want to see anyone, just hibernate Sad

I know I'm being rude and feel sick!

I would just tell them that you've got a really bad headache and would they mind if you made it another night.

Ice3 · 02/12/2016 18:29

Can't you just go and tell them you aren't feeling well?

SalehSalesSaleb · 02/12/2016 18:30

They are all downstairs though and I am in my room. Is it bad to text with apologies? I look and feel like death

If it were me I would go down, poke my head around the corner and say I had dropped off as not feeling well hope you have a good night and then dive back into bed. Text if that's easier/more normal for you.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

tell them you dont feel well, and you wouldnt want to pass it on. your best left alone

JunosRevenge · 02/12/2016 18:40

You're not a massive freak OP. That's your anxiety whispering in your ear.

A close member of my family has anxiety. It sucks.

As a previous poster said, just pop your head round the door and say you are not really up to socialising tonight - if you are able. Tell them you had nodded off earlier.

Hope the meds help you to settle.

Flower for you. Be kind to yourself Flowers

I agree to just pop your head round the door and say "not feeling well guys but have a lovely meal" They will see you aren't well. Then you can relax Smile

It's fine to not want to be social. I agree with everyone else - poke your head round the door and say you've had a splitting headache so you went for a lie down and then dozed off. Then you can say that you're still not feeling too great so you're just going to have an early night/watch telly in bed/whatever, but you hope they have a nice dinner and all that. You've said they're nice people so they will almost certainly be sympathetic and understanding. :) If you really, really can't face seeing them, then send an apologetic text saying you're feeling really ill, have been asleep, and think it's best that you stay in bed. If you want to, you can even say you're feeling queasy and can't face looking at food!

I totally understand how you feel, by the way; I've been there too. Make sure you look after yourself and don't beat yourself up about wanting to be on your own sometimes. We all need a bit of hibernation time, and you're probably still adjusting to your medication too. but once you get used to it you'll probably feel a lot calmer. Hope you feel better soon xx

Thanks all - one of them came to knock for me so I just said I felt really rough and texted rest. They have been very sweet about it but I still feel guilty!

It's fine to not go. If you feel guilty, maybe surprise them with a meal or some nice wine another night (I don't think you're obligated to do that, but if it'd make you feel better its worth considering).
