Long, I'm sorry, but I just had to get this off my chest.

Yesterday, being our half term, we went to Nanny's to enjoy a few things.

We didn't get there 'till the arvo, but did fit in the flying eye.

Today, we were meeting friends at the Sylvanian shop in Arsenal. They drove, for us it was two changes of buses from Oxford Street. No sooner had we reached Oxford Circus, than a woman sitting next to mum, on the inside (she's 77, btw) rang the bell. Mum said 'do you want to get off here?' (not knowing who had rang the bell).

The woman said 'yes, can you move'. Mum, with all her might, turned round 180 degrees to let her off.

Reply was - I've got a heavy shopping bag on my lap, and I want you to get off. Mum said 'OK, just wait 'till the bus has stopped, then I'll get off for you'. She swung her legs round 180greees to let her off. The woman said 'if you don't let me get out I'll hit you'. Mum turned round a bit more, the woman got out and hit mum twice round the head.

Thank GOD someone was coming downstairs who restrained her, then the bus driver closed all the emergency doors and said 'that woman's not coming on public transport again'.

This was on a no. 10 to Regent's Street, but before John Lewis 12 police crew were on the bus, not letting anyone else off.

One lovely man coming from dowstairs restrained her, but in the end she kicked him from behind and he let had to let her go, but which point she said 'I'm disabled, you've got to let me off', although by this point she was running up the end of the bus pressing the emergency exits, of course of which the driver had closed.

Two things worry me. If that lovely man hadn't been coming down the stairs to get off that stop, would he have seen it. If all the people on the bottom floor hadn't witnessed it, where would me/mum/dds have been?

In the end, 4 people came to arrest her, 6 people gave witness, and I'm eternally gratefully for that, but it's put dd2's off London entirely.

Last story I got was an hour ago when she was witnessed and released on bail for FIVE weeks before appearing in court.

Any thoughts?

which bit is the unreasonable bit?

Yurtgirl · 15/02/2007 21:45

How awful

How old ish was the woman?

Carmenere · 15/02/2007 21:48

You poor poor things, that is truly horrible

lulumama · 15/02/2007 21:48

eeek..yes, awful , sorry

kittylette · 15/02/2007 21:49

my gosh that awful, your poor mother

earlgrey · 15/02/2007 21:50

Oh, forgot to say, the last thing she said to the multicultutal bus driver and passengers was 'You're only doing this to me because I'm black'. Which drew a grasp from not only me and my family but the whole lot of multiracial people on the bus.

Lizzylou · 15/02/2007 21:51

How horrific, how is your Mother?

earlgrey · 15/02/2007 21:51

YG, 30s, mid 30s.

OP posts:
lulumama · 15/02/2007 21:51

well, it was clearly being done because she hit your mother

so , which is the unreasonable bit?

moondog · 15/02/2007 21:53

rofl

edam · 15/02/2007 21:55

What an appalling woman. She must surely have behaved like this before - you don't suddenly decide hitting perfect strangers in public is a good idea if you are normally a reasonable human being.

Feel so sorry for you, your mum and dds and the other passengers too.

lulumama · 15/02/2007 21:55

oh god, not laughing at me again??

Yurtgirl · 15/02/2007 21:58

bizarre that you say she was only 30ish - I assumed she was ancient. dont know why

Very odd woman!

moondog · 15/02/2007 22:00

Nooooo Lulu!
Just the whole mad saga.

earlgrey · 15/02/2007 22:00

Lula, because dds were sitting in the 2 front seats, Ma was sitting behind them in the 2 seats behind them, and she clearly finds it hard to get off while the bus is moving. I find it hard at 41, let alone 77!

lulumama · 15/02/2007 22:02

thanks MD! ((little embarrased paranoid smile)

ok,earlygrey..though that of course it is reasonable to be upset that a stranger hit your mum!

earlgrey · 15/02/2007 22:02

Anyway, does bail mean she might meet her down Oxford Street again in the next five flippin' weeks? That scares me.

OP posts:
lulumama · 15/02/2007 22:03

well, yes, theoretically, but the odds of her running into are a million to one, i would think

lulumama · 15/02/2007 22:03

depends on her bail conditions actually

earlgrey · 15/02/2007 22:05

lulu, the police came and took two photographs of her injuries. Poor Ma was more worried about dds beeing upset.

OP posts:
lulumama · 15/02/2007 22:10

bless.......

her conditions might be to keep off public transport or away from that area...best to ask someone like Cod about things like this x

2shoes · 15/02/2007 22:41

your poor mum is she ok?

mummydear · 15/02/2007 22:51

If she has been charged then the police can placed bail conditions on her. I would imagine that one of them is not to go on public transport and not to interfere with witnesses.

If you feel scared that you might run into her then I would speak to the officer investigating and ask what bail conditions, if any, have been imposed.

It seems howver from the way she acted that she wouldn't remember you anyway.

I am surpised that she has been relased on bail for five weeks before court, they usually like to get them to court pretty soon after charging.

are you sure she has been charged and not bailed to return to the police station whilst police get all the statements from witnesses etc ?

earlgrey · 16/02/2007 05:41

No, PO said she'd been bailed for 4=5 weeks.

earlgrey · 16/02/2007 06:00

Can't stop thinking about this now. He locked her into the bus while rang 999, what if she had a knife or something? No- one was let off the bus.
