disclaimer - 1st world problem

The kids have been decorating the Xmas tree (I know it's early, we do it before my DDs birthday) & asked when the elf will arrive?

I went to get him out of his box this morning and...

HE'S GONE!! Disappeared!
I'm screwed. I've been back in the loft searching high & low & he's nowhere to be seen. I can't explain it.

I can't possibly order another elf (£30) can I??
How long do I keep looking?

You can buy just the elf on amazon I think.

BoboBunnyH0p · 01/12/2016 10:04

Send a letter card factory had some elf mail. Ours is arriving a few days late (I'm happy to have a couple less set ups to do) the letter advised there had been a toy emergency (all the hatchimals have hatched).
This means you can have a few more days to search.

autumnrained · 01/12/2016 10:07

Go on fb and there's elf buying and selling groups that sell replicas for a fiver Grin

goingslightlycrazy · 01/12/2016 10:18

Elf Mail- excellent idea.

Replica elf also good but it will have to be exactly the same.
Unless I buy one totally different to minimise the risk of getting found out!

Maybe a green one?

Can I ask what's this elf on a shelf business, haven't got a clue Confused.

Meadows76 · 01/12/2016 10:21

£30 for an ELF [shocked]

Just go to bloody Asda or something and spend £4 on one

Trifleorbust · 01/12/2016 10:44

He's probably hiding so he can better see the behaviour...

Yawnyawnallday · 01/12/2016 10:48

Me too aero, what is Elf On The Shelf ffs. Or, "please".

TheRavensFeather · 01/12/2016 10:49

Get a cheap one from card factory.

Tell the kids a different one is sent each year, this ones in training.

neonrainbow · 01/12/2016 10:52

Its a bloody stupid elf that's meant to watch your kids behaviour during the day so they can "report to santa". When the kids are in bed you're supposed to put it into "hilarious" poses and put pictures on Facebook then your kids come down in the morning and find the elf has got itself into "mischief".

Yawnyawnallday · 01/12/2016 10:54

Ridiculous money making bollocks, then.
Ps Santa is NOT ridiculous money making bollock, just so we're clear.

Yawnyawnallday · 01/12/2016 12:58

Ok I caved. One 2.99 Elf on shelf bought. Not the "real thing " whatever that is.

Aeroflotgirl · 01/12/2016 13:14

Thanks neo, sounds a load of rubbish to me, and I can't be bothered with the hassle.

gamerchick · 01/12/2016 13:19

I asked my youngling if I would invite the elf to come and stay, he was properly horrified and creeped out.

It's now a handy threat if he's really acting up. No money spent.

Aeroflotgirl · 01/12/2016 13:33

gamer that is funny, yes it saves you £30 of an elf Shock. If you do that, any £2 elf will do, that that one.

Wifflewaffles · 01/12/2016 13:42

So glad that we don't do this. Yes I'm miserable.

Aeroflotgirl · 01/12/2016 13:45

I love Christmas and all the preparations, Santa, etc, but its just a bit of madness, along with Christmas eve boxes for kids and special pyjamas for Christmas day etc. Its just more commercialism.

Wookiecookies · 01/12/2016 13:47

Oh not these flipping elves again! Dont do it OP, its yet another marketing ploy to get parents to part with more cash at crimbo. The less that take part, the more likely it will dissapear forever as the pointless creepy Fad that it is.

zofranks · 01/12/2016 14:28

I find all this elf talk creepy, I don't want a watching elf reporting back in my house thank you very much

Yawnyawnallday · 01/12/2016 15:00

Having dismissed it as bollocks and having found a cheap one in my lunch half hour. And with no intention of putting it on FB. I think our elf will be too busy doing crazy hide and seek for any grassing to Santa crap.
Now, how can I get it near enough but not in the cat's litter tray ....
My dd is a bit down in the dumps with a cold so it might cheer her up.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 01/12/2016 15:02

Encouraging your children to believe they're being spied on inside their own homes? I'm not sure I agree with it tbh. I do the Santa thing but don't really link it to their behaviour because I think it undermines me and my authority as their parent. I also don't like spending money on a pointless fad when I don't need to.
I'm being a bit miserable today.

purpleflower23 · 01/12/2016 15:12

Wow, creepy! Xmas Hmm

RachelRagged · 01/12/2016 15:37
Grin

£30 is a lot for an elf though , in my opinion anyway

TheHouseOfIllRepute · 01/12/2016 15:40

He's a creepy little fucker
He gets covered in flour, takes toys out of the box and gets up to all kinds of tricksHmm
Our nation is a nation of sheep. Does nobody have an original thought
