AIBU to just put the baby to bed in a carry cot?

Going on a UK holiday over Christmas with 2DC, one of whom is 3m.

Got so much crap to pack, I'm starting to think we could just leave the travel cot behind and let the baby sleep in the carry cot off the pram?!

Am I being unreasonable? Is there something I haven't thought of?

What the heck difference does it make?

One less big thing to take surely.

My dd2 slept in her carrycot until she was about 3m. I'd say it's fine as long as they can't turn over (which dd1 could by 3m Hmm).

DefinitelyNotRuth · 01/12/2016 08:25

That's what we are doing. No room for the Moses basket in the car!

smEGGnogg · 01/12/2016 08:25

Of course yanbu. If your carry cot is anything like mine it has a mattress inside anyway so no different to a bed.

londonrach · 01/12/2016 08:26

When i was sold mine i was advised ok for occasion night but not for more than one as theres limited support for the back. As it turns out she never slept more than an hour in it so no way sleep through the night. Our first to relatives involved a full car of her bits including the moses basket.

dylsmimi · 01/12/2016 08:26

I don't think its a problem - we so this when we go to mils. Our pram has s mattress and lies flat but we tend to keep the carrycot on the pram wheels so it's higher and we can rock if we need to
As long as she can't sit up so may fall out ;and you will be fine at 3 mths)

MoreThanUs · 01/12/2016 08:27

Of course it's fine - or put her in a drawer when you get there.

Basicbrown · 01/12/2016 08:27

It depends on the carrycot London rach, some can be used instead of a moses basket Smile

londonrach · 01/12/2016 08:32

I. Suppose mine was from mamas and papas and had a good mattress but she was never completely comfortable i felt. We about to move from the moses basket to a cot and plan to use a travel cot this xmas. I wish i could have got away with the carrycot part of the pram. Pfb so learning as we go along but must admit that first trip we considered changing the car as by the time her clothes were in, moses basket, sterlizer, pram base, carry cot part of pram, her car seat her there was no room for our tiny rucksack! I had to return the activity mat to the house. How do people do this?

Our DD slept in her sleepyhead when travelling. Much smaller and lighter than a travel cot and she slept amazingly in it.

OwlinaTree · 01/12/2016 08:36

these pop up beds are great, and pack down flat. You can get a better price, that's just the first result I saw.

meladeso · 01/12/2016 08:48

Thanks everyone, carrycot sounds like a goer then! It's pretty comfy looking, and baby can't roll over / sit up or anything.

How do people do this?

They have big cars with roof boxes Grin

Ds2 was 3 weeks old during his first holiday. He slept in his carrycot. The website said it was fine occasionally.
It's probably worth checking the website fir your buggy but I'm sure it would be fine! Definitely less to pack!!!

BertrandRussell · 01/12/2016 08:56

I'm a bit of a hippy, but both mine slept on a very small futon mattress when away from home from birth. It rolled up tightly for traveling, then we just unrolled it and tucked it into a quiet corner wherever we were.

TheBruteSquad · 01/12/2016 09:27

Our carrycot was suitable for overnight sleeping. DS slept in it from 7-11ish every night as a little baby, in the living room with us and then we moved him into the Moses basket in our room when we went to bed.

When we went on holiday he slept in the carrycot all night.

Check your manufacturers instructions. Ours was suitable for overnight sleeping as it was vented underneath (Uppababy Vista) but some aren't.
