Fudge recipe with condensed milk!

lostgirl66 · 30/11/2016 16:15

Argh! I have some condensed milk and I remember years ago making fudge with it and cocoa powder, it was literally just condensed milk in a pan, low heat, with cocoa powder and possibly butter but don't remember that too well and just stif til it's thick then cool and make into balls covered in ground almonds or similar!

I can't find the recipe anywhere now! I don't know how much cocoa to put in or even if I've dreamt it at this point!! Please some body help! Sad

this one maybe?

Chasingsquirrels · 30/11/2016 16:20

1lb / 450g sugar
2oz / 50g butter
1/4 pint / 150ml evaporated milk
1/4 pint / 150ml milk
2-3 drops vanilla essence

Sugar, butter & milks I'm large heavy based pan & stir over gentle heat until sugar dissolves.
Bring to boil & boil to soft ball stage stirring occasionally (I stir constantly towards the end).
Beat in vanilla & continue beating until thick & creamy (I don't put vanilla in but the beating is v v important).
Pour into 15cm square tin.

Thanks everyone

None of those are the ones I've made before, they had no chocolate or sugar in them I'm sure! I'm beginning to think I've imagined it now! Hmm

I've just been to the shop too and could have bought some more things if I'd just checked before! Sad

I think I'm just going to cobble something together with what I've got and see how it tastes Grin

I only want some because I saw the episode of friends the other day where Monica was making holiday candy for all the neighbours! It reminded me of them and I've wanted them ever since! I'm so suggestible!

Annoyingly I saw the recipe on Instagram the other day and of course I can't find it again Envy

Hey,
I use a tin of condensed milk and chocolate. melt down 400g of choc - we like a mix of milk and dark, and then tip the can of condensed milk into the milk and mix like hell. It becomes pretty stiff quite quick so I then transfer into whatever you are using (i use loaf tin liners in a lasagne dish!) leave to set and cut.

It's lovely! I bought some little tupperwares from home bargains and tend to gift in those :)

glueandstick · 30/11/2016 16:37

The carnation milk one is the best.

Temporaryname137 · 30/11/2016 16:39

2lb sugar
100g butter
300ml evaporated milk (ie the one that ISN'T carnation)
300ml milk
flavouring - melted chocolate and orange drops; vanilla; lemon drops and tiny pieces of meringue - go mad!

but DON'T dye it blue, as my friend and I did once. that was most off-putting.

lostgirl66 · 30/11/2016 16:39

Maybe I've got the wrong 'milk' thing? Confused why didn't I bloody check it before I went to the shop!! Angry

Is this the wrong milky thing so you think then? Hmm

Would this work without the biscuits?

Haven't tried that one.

I use the slow cooker one (recipe was going round FB a while back). It's not fudge fudge, but it's incredibly yummy.

Temporaryname137 · 30/11/2016 16:45

I THINK it has to be evaporated, not condensed. But I'm fairly shit at cooking, so I could be wrong. I just remember trying it with carnation once and it did not end well!

I use this one. Sometimes, I bash up a pack of rich tea biscuits, mix that through the fudge mixture, then once it's set a bit, put a layer of chocolate on top. Known as crunch in our house, and adored by all.

lostgirl66 · 30/11/2016 16:46

Yes time that looks about right! Just before I read your reply though I just shoved a loaf of cocoa power and condensed milk in a pan, definitely more that the recipe said! Hmm let see how that turns out!! Confused

I have used condensed milk, definitely. It has to get hotter than you ever thought imaginable. Or you can just microwave it!!

humblesims · 30/11/2016 17:06

is condensed milk different to evporated milk?

happypoobum · 30/11/2016 17:08

Yes, it's much thicker and sweeter.

debka · 30/11/2016 17:13

Google brigadeiros - cocoa, condensed milk and butter.
