To want to tell my friend that her DC look uncomfortable?

This is so silly really and I know it's none of my business...BUT

My good mate has two DC aged 4 and 18 months. Both are slim and tallish...normal weights for their age ....yet for some reason, she dresses them in exactly the "correct" age clothing for their actual age and it doesn't FIT them!

They always look like things are too tight!

I hate seeing it...she puts her 4 year old DS in skinny jeans, labelled "4" and he's quite obviously a child who'd fit into at least a 5-6....same with her little girl....she buys a lot of new clothing but always looks for the tags appropriate for their actual age instead of noticing that their clothing is clinging!

It's like a bit of a blind spot. I've said subtle things like "ooh hasn't he grown! He must be into the next size up now!" and she'll say "No...he's still in age 4"

I only noticed when she bought my DD a dress up outfit age 7 when she's been in age 9 for a good while due to her height and broad shoulders.

Wtf? This is a LIGHTHEARTED AIBU...I probably AM BU....I just wanted to know if anyone else does it and why she might be doing it really. I hate seeing her DS waddling in these tighter than tight jeans!

This is odd and if she persists I actually don't think She will listen to you. Maybe she has body dysmophia and is worried her kids are fat? Unless she is frighteningly dim she is ignoring their discomfort and intentionally squeezing them into these clothes. What the reason is I don't know.

My dd1 is ridiculously tall and slim. Dd2 is short and broad. They look different too. First was always in clothes 3 yrs or so ahead. Second is in actual age or 1 yr younger. You have to respond to their body.
It is strange.

Diamondsandpears · 29/11/2016 21:15

DGPs always buy current or smaller size for mine. Why just why??

allgoodnamestaken · 29/11/2016 21:16

Gosh. I have the rage because my DM never buys my kids their size. Always gets clothes too big. And it's not so that they can put them away and wear when ready. She'll buy a winter jacket for them that clearly is too big. And then tell me to change them if they don't fit. But don't think that she understands that working full time doesn't give you the luxury of having time to be schlepping clothes back to the shops.

ChangedMyMind · 29/11/2016 21:21

My eldest 2 were very very tall for age, youngest one is only 75th centile for height and actually 30th for weight so she always gets clothes that are smaller than her age so don't fit at all or only for a short time just because she isn't as "huge" as the older two Confused

awayinamazda · 29/11/2016 21:32

I think its a 1970's thing - back then all kids seemed to be in clothes that were barely big enough - maybe ur friend is dressing her DC as she was dressed as a child :-D.

I think you might be right. I have bad memories of being forced into a polo neck jumper that was too small for me and that tight neck went on for about a mile it seemed before I got my head through!

I don't wear anything close to my neck now.

YABU, mind your own business

bostonkremekrazy · 29/11/2016 22:11

my kids are tiny - at least 2 yrs smaller than clothing sizes, people always buy the actual size which i then have to faff around swapping or sit in the wardrobe for a few years
you can see they are tiny.....the constant comments should be a clue - but no - the actual age in size it is Hmm

MsHybridFanGirl · 29/11/2016 23:02

Tibba - am crying with laughter at your description of the polo neck! The things parents do?!

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 29/11/2016 23:38

My 2 yo is around 1m (maybe a bit taller now, it was about 6 months since he was measured and he has had a big spurt Blush
His trousers are around age 3-4 but it's his tops that are the problem as he has a REALLY long body and arms so needs age 5 in most shops.
9 month old off the chart for length and 99.6 centile for weight and can't fit in any 9-12 month clothing now, even bigger sizes. Most 12-18 month are on the tight side now so moving on to 18-24. I can barely keep up! I'm getting rid of clothes they've not had chance to wear Sad

Cucumber5 · 30/11/2016 00:01

Was the opposite for us. Tiny kids. We got everyone's hand me downs which was very kind

Youremywifenow · 30/11/2016 00:22

I've given up on looking at the age in clothes.
My 5 year old boy has just grown out of his age 7 school trousers that I only bought in September, size 13 feet. He's not overweight at all just tall and in proportion to his height. He was a beast of a baby, 99th centile for height and weight.
My 8 month old girl is small and still in age 3-6 months, 25th centile for height and weight.

Smaller children are much better value.

Shelvesoutofbooks · 30/11/2016 00:28

My 4yo DD wears 6-7 and she's pretty average for her age

PrincessMoana · 30/11/2016 00:44

Is she autistic? DH has to follow the rules. If something says cook for 20 minutes he will and then get it out whether it's burned or under done.

If he was in charge of buying clothes for our kids he would absolutely buy the correct number regardless of fit.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 30/11/2016 00:54

I understand the OP's friend.
I was still wearing Age 30 when I was 55

IveAlreadyPaid · 30/11/2016 09:42

My dh still wants me to wear age 18 and I'm 37

Pengweng · 30/11/2016 10:10

I would say something if they are a very close friend.

I find it weird that they are sticking so rigidly to the age guides. Very strange as most of them also have a height range on them too so you would think they would check that.

My 4 yo twins wear dif sized clothes. One is still under 100 cms and wears age 3-4 for most things. The other is 106cms with a really long body so wears 4-5 trousers and 5-6 tops/dresses. Poor DT2 gets all the cast offs. Strangely annoyingly they have exactly the same size feet, even down to the left being slightly bigger. So i can't pass down DT1s shoes which are immaculate to DT2 who destroys everything that goes on her feet.

BathshebaSnowflakeStone · 30/11/2016 10:17

Is she autistic? Confused

Amelie10 · 30/11/2016 10:20

Ffs autistic and body dysmorphia?? Hmmtypical mn!

How about she's just ridiculous as she can clothe herself with the right size.

Rinceoir · 30/11/2016 10:29

Can I ask you all where is selling these tiny clothes so that I can buy some?!!

My DD is almost 3. She's 11kg and 90cm with narrow shoulders/hips etc. Some 18-24month clothes fit around the waist (many are still too big) but generally are too short. 2-3year stuff generally swamps her. Baby Zara and Vertbaudet are where everything that fits her comes from but I'd love something more traditional!

BathshebaSnowflakeStone · 30/11/2016 10:38

Ffs yourself Amelie I have autistic traits and people think I struggle with this. Hmm

cafenoirbiscuit · 30/11/2016 10:39

Brrrr - can't even imagine wearing things which are too short now the temperature is -4. Poor kids!

RandomMess · 30/11/2016 19:35

Slim girls - go for dresses with tights, easiest all around!
