to think this Pokemon obsession has become ridiculous

What on earth is it with these Pokémon games? This is lighthearted I guess because I'm sure it's great for children to have passions but I'm sitting here marking yet another load of 'stories' from school that all wind up being about Pokémon and thinking it's all bordering on the obsessive.

I'm not sure how they work because I only have girls so I haven't seen any of the games/tv programmes or whatever.

But the impact they're starting to have in my classroom is insane. It seems to be particularly Yeas 5 and 6. Whatever I'm doing in Drama the boys manage to twist their plays to be about Pokémon. Whenever they have free rein to write in English they twist the titles and write terrible, descriptionless rubbish about Pokémon fights and a character that seems to be called Baby Jesus?! When I talk to them in tutor time it seems their interests have become centred around Pokémon and nothing else. They do 'Pokémon stuff' at weekends (I don't know exactly what that entails), draw Pokémon, print Pokémon pictures off the computers and (possibly) pretend to be Pokémon at times.

It was one boy's birthday the other day and I asked him if he was doing anything special. The other boys were all very excited and said they're going to London. I said that sounded really fun and asked what they were going to do. The answer - Pokémon!?!

Have I been living under a rock? What are these special and amazing things and why are they taking over our children's lives?

We're a pokemon family here (and I'm a girlHmm)
DH and I were both into Pokemon when younger. Now, with Pokemon Go, we can get our 4 year old ds involved.

He loves it so much, I'm drawing all the Pokemon to put into a handmade Pokedex for his for Christmas Grin

I bloody love Pikachu 😂

My 10 year old is a massive fan, he's just got the new game and can't leave it alone.
My "old" stepson who is now 30 lost his paper round age 13 for stealing Pokemon cards so it's been around a long time!

Where on earth do you live that Pokémon is not a thing that girls are into?

As crazes go, it's definitely one of the better ones.

Chattymummyhere · 28/11/2016 09:47

It never stopped for some people my brother was still into it before Pokémon go came out, dh has dug out his old game boy for the kids and even mil has dug out sils old cards for the kids.

As a teacher surely you should be using this to your advantage to engage the children? Our school even run a minecraft club and do maths around it sometimes as well as creative design etc

Yesterday I was playing Pokemon Go in the car when a boy walking along, about 9 years old, waved his phone at me and shouted "Im playing Pokemon too". Dh asked if I feel silly now. Me "nope". Im 35.

*My OH just changed out of pyjamas because he saw a local Pokémon gym being attacked and he's driven over to help...
Rushed out the door with the statement "yes, I'm a giant child"... *

I think your DP is awesome. But we're a Pokemon family too. Sunday morning walks at the beach are punctuated by Magikarp hunting as well as chasing toddler, puddle jumping and all that gubbins.

My 4 year old has learnt about larger numbers using Pokemon go. She understands hundreds are bigger than teens etc. She always asks how big the Pokemon are. We have had chats about evolving things and how that works etc.

It's awesome, she love watching the old shows and knows all the Pokemon now! Excited about the 100 new ones coming soon!
