Left at 6pm, I turned all the lights off in the house. 100% sure.
Husband gets in at 9pm, all lights in the house on, all of them.
Nobody else has keys, no tripped switches.
Why would this happen? Freaking out over someone having been in my house!

OP posts:
Bodear · 21/11/2016 22:26

I'm sure you just forgot to turn them off.

Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:27

I specifically remember making the conscious effort to turn them all off. If I thought there was a chance I hadn't I wouldn't be worried.

OP posts:
HollowTalk · 21/11/2016 22:28

That would freak me out!

wonderstuff · 21/11/2016 22:28

Definitely a ghost. (helpful)

SmilingButClueless · 21/11/2016 22:32

Some sort of power surge resetting things (if that's even possible - I am no electrician!)?

I wouldn't have thought an intruder would have turned lights on as that would be drawing attention to themselves.

RoseGoldHippie · 21/11/2016 22:32

Are you sure your DH isn't on a wind up?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 21/11/2016 22:33

Have you got pets that could've done it?

Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:33

Smiling that's what I'm hoping.
Was just hoping either an electrician or someone who's had this happen and found the answer would come along so I can sleep tonight!

OP posts:
Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:34

Rose gold I bloody hope not.
He had a go at me for leaving them all on, so don't think so. I've made him go in the loft to check there's nobody in there and he did it so I think is unlikely he would go to the effort Grin

OP posts:
Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:35

Zigzag no pets.

clumsyduck · 21/11/2016 22:35

I have been sure Iv turned out the lights before and then realised I can't have
Did dh come back in the house after you ?

Or it could be a ghost so we could start another spooky stories thread Grin please

Foxysoxy01 · 21/11/2016 22:36

A family member with a key? Or neighbour?

Would a power surge really turn all the lights on? Hmm

TBH if it was an intruder I'm not sure they would advertise the fact they were/had been there by putting all the lights on.

RoseGoldHippie · 21/11/2016 22:37

Ahh yeah mine would do the first bit (total arse!Grin) but wouldn't go to he effort of carrying on with that!

Sounds really weird but I agree with smiling it's probably some sort of surge. Is the oven timer normal or has it gone to 00;00? The only way I can ever tell these things!!

Keep us posted if you find out what it is!!

FannyWisdom · 21/11/2016 22:37

Can't be power surge the switches are turned off by OP.

Ghost.

Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:38

He came in at 9.
God knows, I definitely turned them off because I remember doing it. My mum was in the kitchen when I turned them off and she wasn't best pleased. Left the little lamp in lounge on to make it look like someone was home and so we could put our shoes on.
Bleughhhhh

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 21/11/2016 22:38

There's a fancy name for this but I can't recall it. It's basically a false memory because you've turned the lights off so many times before, so you remember doing it even if you didn't this time. Some people get it for locking their car or house, or anything you almost do on autopilot.

clumsyduck · 21/11/2016 22:40

Yup false memory
Or did your mum turn them all back on ?!

Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:41

Oven timer is the same.
I'm just going to have to try and convince myself I left the lights on or else I'll never sleep again.
Considering getting locks changed

Abusive gaslighitn husband who wants to make you think you're going mad. -_-

Crunchymum · 21/11/2016 22:41

Did they all have to be turned off and back on again individually or do you have some kind of mains light setting?

Colby43443 · 21/11/2016 22:42

Your mum clearly switched them back on then. There mystery solved

Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:42

Clumsy.
Mum could've turned them all back on, I guess I could've missed it somehow as I left.
At least downstairs but she definitely didn't go upstairs.

OP posts:
Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:44

They'd all need turning off individually.
So unless mums followed me turning them all on after I turned them off I don't understand.
And doesn't explain upstairs.

OP posts:
MrsRyanGosling15 · 21/11/2016 22:49

Well I asked my dad who is an electrician and he said no, it's definitely a ghostGrin. Best just move house.

Chamonix1 · 21/11/2016 22:50
