Tips on shirt armpit washing

I know you lot are cleverer than me so I ask, do you have any tricks to getting armpits in shirts nice and clean so they are not crispy and hold that residue deodorant smell. I'd love to get dh shirts lasting longer than they do? After a while they just seem unwearable and unclean. Thanks.

I use Napisan (baby isle about £3.50 for loads) in the wash with my running kit and ds1's white school shirts. You can also soak clothes in it before washing if they are bad. My tops were so bad that they stunk after a body balance class but are fine for a good month after a soaking and ds1's shirts come up nice and white.

Oh and recently I read on a running site that if you freeze your trainers it kills the bacteria that causes the smells which might also be worth a try for your tops!

Get him to change his deodorant. Try Nivea Invisible. I found it leaves no marks on my shirts.

helena Tell him to do his own washing for a start.

Really? I do all the family's washing- it works for us.

I was just thinking about this today and was going to ask MIL. Saves me a job! Thank you

thenightsky · 21/11/2016 23:14

Michum is awful stuff. It takes forever to dry, so ends up all over clothes, going crispy.

Ordered the stain devil spray. Hope it works. Expensive but worth it if it saves the life of an expensive shirt. Thank you.

What can you do for wool and silk?

CMOTDibbler · 22/11/2016 20:57

Dhs shirts used to always go horrid under the arms. We switched to Lidl Formil washing powder (bio) with a slug of Napisan, and they are non stinky and no yuck under the arms. Bio powder works best at 40-60 imo

In 1965,my domestic science teacher requested that us 13 year old girls brought a shirt of our dad's to school so she could teach us how to launder it Hmm My mum was a wonderful wife and parent and an ardent feminist and follower of Betty Friedan.
Guess who didn't take the shirt to school? Grin
< misses point completely >

A bucket load of biological washing powder in a 40 degree wash solved this problem for me. Extra rinse if you are sensitive to the detergent. I tried messing about with stain removers first but life is too short.

attackofthekillerno · 23/11/2016 13:05

Dettol antibacterial kitchen spray. The clear one.

Managed to sort out a skanky pe bag so will do a shirt no problems.
