Clearing out a cupboard and came across these. Have to be at least 10 years old. Will they still be drinkable?

Isnt it the older the better?

Mrsmadevans · 20/11/2016 21:45

God yeah I thought it improved with age?

BewtySkoolDropowt · 20/11/2016 21:46

Try them and see. If you need any volunteers to help....

Longdistance · 20/11/2016 21:46

Of course they are still drinkable.

Save them for Crimbo.

Or send them in my direction Grin

PurpleDaisies · 20/11/2016 21:46

Why wouldn't you at least try each one before you bin them?

wowfudge · 20/11/2016 21:46

Open them and see!

NickyEds · 20/11/2016 21:46

Don't just bin them! You may as well open one and see.

Paleogal · 20/11/2016 21:47

Not sure, one or two aren't 'real' champagne, just Asti and Charlemagne whatever that is. Wouldn't want to poison anyone!

GrabtharsHammer · 20/11/2016 21:47

The actual champagne will be fine. Pour the Asti down the sink though. It's swill whatever age it is.

AddToBasket · 20/11/2016 21:48

Throw out the Asti. The two in the middle should be fine, assuming you haven't kept them next to a radiator.

What's the one on the left?

Paleogal · 20/11/2016 21:48

Well if they'll be ok I won't go out and buy more for xmas. I'll be gutted if I open them and they are vinegar!

OP posts:
Allalonenow · 20/11/2016 21:49

The Martini Asti probably not worth bothering with, but open the others and have a taste.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 20/11/2016 21:50

The champagne will be fine - worst case scenario they'll have lost their fizz, but will still be drinkable and perfectly safe.

Paleogal · 20/11/2016 21:50

The one on the far left is donkeys years old. Think I was given it for my 30th! 13 years ago!

Chuck the asti and the magnum of Charlemagne. Keep the champers.

Pagwatch · 20/11/2016 21:51

The Piper Heidseick will be fine. Cheers !
The other champagne may be OK - I can't read the label

The other two were already swill 10 years ago.

Jayfee · 20/11/2016 21:53

i opened marks champagne after a couple of years and it was off due to poor storage!!

Waffles80 · 20/11/2016 21:53

You can probably cook with the others - I've done moules marinere and other seafood dishes with leftover fizz.

And it does depend on storage as to how champagne will keep. Should be stored upright.

Trills · 20/11/2016 21:55

You'd be a fool to throw them out without testing them.

You'd also be a fool to take them to an occasion where you needed champagne.

Random Sunday-night drinks it is!

Paleogal · 20/11/2016 21:56

Thanks all, it appears I can't do any damage by trying them! I just won't keep them for a special occasion (which is why they were put away in the first place. A lesson learned, don't keep things for special ocassions)

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 20/11/2016 21:58

Have they been kept lying down or stood up? If stood up, the corks may have dried up so the champagne may well be off - and take care opening them, the cork may fly out quite quickly.

But Trill is right - don't assume they are all gone off, but don't take them along to an occasion either

Toottoot22 · 20/11/2016 21:59

I have the same, several bottles of champagne, mainly over 10 years old. I'm scared to open them in company! I did start to look at some pudding recipes earlier though using champagne.

MsFloraPoste · 20/11/2016 22:08

I'm horrified that this situation ever arose. Let this be a lesson for all of us - if you have champagne, drink it!
