To throw away these bottles of champagne

Clearing out a cupboard and came across these. Have to be at least 10 years old. Will they still be drinkable?

Isnt it the older the better?

God yeah I thought it improved with age?

Try them and see. If you need any volunteers to help....

Not sure, one or two aren't 'real' champagne, just Asti and Charlemagne whatever that is. Wouldn't want to poison anyone!

The actual champagne will be fine. Pour the Asti down the sink though. It's swill whatever age it is.

Throw out the Asti. The two in the middle should be fine, assuming you haven't kept them next to a radiator.

Well if they'll be ok I won't go out and buy more for xmas. I'll be gutted if I open them and they are vinegar!

The Martini Asti probably not worth bothering with, but open the others and have a taste.

The champagne will be fine - worst case scenario they'll have lost their fizz, but will still be drinkable and perfectly safe.

The one on the far left is donkeys years old. Think I was given it for my 30th! 13 years ago!

Chuck the asti and the magnum of Charlemagne. Keep the champers.

i opened marks champagne after a couple of years and it was off due to poor storage!!

You can probably cook with the others - I've done moules marinere and other seafood dishes with leftover fizz.

And it does depend on storage as to how champagne will keep. Should be stored upright.

You'd be a fool to throw them out without testing them.

You'd also be a fool to take them to an occasion where you needed champagne.

Thanks all, it appears I can't do any damage by trying them! I just won't keep them for a special occasion (which is why they were put away in the first place. A lesson learned, don't keep things for special ocassions)

Have they been kept lying down or stood up? If stood up, the corks may have dried up so the champagne may well be off - and take care opening them, the cork may fly out quite quickly.

But Trill is right - don't assume they are all gone off, but don't take them along to an occasion either

I have the same, several bottles of champagne, mainly over 10 years old. I'm scared to open them in company! I did start to look at some pudding recipes earlier though using champagne.

I'm horrified that this situation ever arose. Let this be a lesson for all of us - if you have champagne, drink it!
