By a pair of parakeets Grin

They are bloody noisy buggers. But so pretty. DP is making fun of me as I am absolutely fasincated by them. They're not supposed to be on the feeder as its for small birds but they have totally bowled me over! They are eating the sunflower hearts.

They have visited every morning this week and they sit there ever so nicely.

I still love the more common garden birds we get too. The flats are at the back of an industrial estate in suburban south-west london so it's great that there's so much wildlife.

Just wanted to share as I was so excited by 'my' new birds!

Lass - I think there are parakeets in Glasgow...

Must get one of those window feeders actually. They look ace!

redshoeblueshoe · 19/11/2016 11:46

Wow I thought you were going to say you lived somewhere exotic ! They are brilliant.

WorraLiberty · 19/11/2016 11:50

I've never seen them before, Mad but I'm going to get one for MIL for Christmas.

Thanks, that's sorted Xmas Grin

Do you get much bird shit on the window?

CattyMcCatface · 19/11/2016 11:52

I'm so jealous! I feed the birds in our garden and love to watch them, but we don't get anything as exotic as those! Lucky you!

SoupDragon · 19/11/2016 11:54

I have a regular small flock of bright green parakeets in my South Croydon garden. They never fail to make me smile as they are so gloriously unbritish!

MadHattersWineParty · 19/11/2016 12:01

Glad to be of help Worra!

The birds are actually very good about not shitting on the window or in the feeder. The windowsill takes a bit of a bashing though Grin

Move to my area of SE London , , We have LOADS of them .

Each morning my cats and dog are out there , , cats prowling and dog barking, as they tend to land in a tree in the neighbours garden . They are very pretty though I must say.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 19/11/2016 12:09

we see them most days around the same time in SE London

a little bit of the tropics is lovely to see on dull grey London day

They annoy the cat who tells them off for being so noisy

CaesiumTime · 19/11/2016 12:13

We had them around my house in London a few months ago. I love love seeing them but they are noisy fuckers. Dang when they get going they are really loud.

RachelRagged · 19/11/2016 12:15

Hello Enthusiasm .

I think from seeing other posts of yours we live in the same London borough beginning with L ?

I agree with you , they certainly brighten up dull South London days that's for sure.

thecatneuterer · 19/11/2016 12:20

namechangeemergency There are some in East London. There is a small flock I know of around Stork Road/ Warwick Road E15. I've never seen any in other E postcodes though.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 19/11/2016 12:25

Yes we do Smile

JanetStWalker · 19/11/2016 12:33

Are you in Surrey? My dad is always telling me about the parakeets. It was a little joke in our family where we all pretended they didn't exist 'oh, are they next to the pink elephant dad, there there"

We used to do the same with mum whenever we were visited by the random peacock, hehe.

booklooker · 19/11/2016 12:59

Yes, they are beautiful

But they are not native to these shores, and if they are multiplying it is probably at a cost to the fauna/flora that is native.

redshoeblueshoe · 19/11/2016 13:00

Peacock - you are lucky, DH thinks its exotic when we get robins

Paleogal · 19/11/2016 13:03

I've just bought that window feeder from Amazon, what a brilliant idea.

MatildaTheCat · 19/11/2016 13:22

We are inundated with the noisy bastards. Don't see any of my little robin or blue tit friends any more. Sad

MadHattersWineParty · 19/11/2016 13:49

There's a bit on Kensington Gardens where you can have them on your arm. It's become sort of an unofficial tourist attraction. I walk there at lunchtime most days and there are always huge groups of people posing with them eating out of their hands or landing on their heads.

Exactly Matilda

I don't know why people are getting so excited over a non-native bird without thinking of the consequences.

I don't give a toss why they may be appearing in the UK, they do not belong here

(Hope I am not sounding like the Farage of RSPB)

booklooker · 19/11/2016 16:24

Have I just killed the thread

CaesiumTime · 19/11/2016 16:26

Grin booklooker

I was going to say that I had read that they do cause damage but they are very exciting to see, they are so beautiful.

If not noisy and destructive.

booklooker · 19/11/2016 16:41

They have appeared in large numbers in the Middle East as well.

And I m pretty sure they are not native to this region either.

Not sure where they have come from.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 19/11/2016 16:41

Indian ringnecks - you are soooo lucky.

Whitney168 · 19/11/2016 16:48

Berkshire here, and we have a small flock of them flying about all the time, just love them. They only seem to come down on to the feeders when weather cold really, but they're always about.

See lots of them in Windsor Great Park too, which is a bit nearer London than us.

Whitney168 · 19/11/2016 16:48

Oh, and no issues on the native bird front here, either ...
