To wonder when Mumsnet stopped being a place for mums?

I used to frequent the site years ago and have come back recently because I became a mum again! However, whilst I am all for equality, the site seems to be full of people who aren't mums or aren't even parents! (and a good few who are journalists hunting for stories!).

I would never suggest anyone be excluded from the warmth, breadth of knowledge or bat shit crazy hysteria that the site offers, I was just wondering when it stopped being a place mainly for mums?

(I am not suggesting dads or non parents aren't welcome, just curious as to when the shift happened?).

OP posts:

Also, it was not the OP who mentioned transactivists, and she did not suggest in any way that people who have lost children or can't have children aren't parents. Some of the replies are really hysterical.

Im0gen · 19/11/2016 08:13

Or if you were Really Naive , you'd make rape apologist posts on a thread in relationships and then claim you were putting another perspective.

Just out of naivety you understand and not because you were a GF. On a rape thread . Such a clever and amusing things to do .

AyeAmarok · 19/11/2016 08:13

Yes, it's definitely better to have lots of mummies on here, even if they're rape apologists.

Personally, I've always liked the creative threads, like what can you do with odd socks.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/11/2016 08:14

Yes! I may be 'hysterical' but at least I'm not kicking someone who is really down

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/11/2016 08:15

Aye Grin

facebookrecruit · 19/11/2016 08:15

I've found since joining MN that there are a fair few posters who've joined not because they are parents, but purely to be goady fuckers in AIBU

Jupiter2Mars · 19/11/2016 08:15

What's a GF?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/11/2016 08:17

A goady fucker - often used in these kinds of convos

OnionKnight · 19/11/2016 08:20

Holy shit Aye Grin

Empress13 · 19/11/2016 08:21

LimitedSedition · 19/11/2016 08:23

Aye

Mandraki · 19/11/2016 08:24

I'm not a mum, I just come here because I enjoy the AIBU drama. I literally never leave this bit.

Ahickiefromkinickie · 19/11/2016 08:25

OP really loves the words hysteria and hysterical, doesn't she? She's used it in the other thread as well.

I think that word degrades women. But after reading her posts on the other thread, it doesn't surprise me that she's ok with that.

Jupiter2Mars · 19/11/2016 08:27

yes there are a few GFs on MN. They trawl around picking fights, name calling etc. Sometimes trolling. They are a pain and I usually try to press the delete button in my head when I see their posts.
Personally, I really value posts that give an alternative perspective but only when it's done with some respect.
I can't be bothered with the posters that just pile in to aim kicks at someone who is already taking a beating, especially when they just copy a few words from someone else's attacking post and put a grinning emoji next to it.

But for the avoidance of doubt none of this post is a defence of what the op said in another thread.

Jupiter2Mars · 19/11/2016 08:29

That wasn't a dig at anyone on this thread btw

Oscha · 19/11/2016 08:30

Are you accusing me of being a sock puppet?!

I'm not. Report me to MN and get them to check if you like. How rude.

SILfoundmyusername · 19/11/2016 08:31

fenced I joined when I was TTC I think about 5 years ago. When I was pregnant then lost my baby and was no longer pregnant/going to be a mum, should MNHQ have been monitoring the pregnancy loss pages/see who left the antenatal clubs and told me to fuck off and not come back again until I could carry a pregnancy to term?

SILfoundmyusername · 19/11/2016 08:32

P.s. I don't agree with other threads being pulled up and discussed on this one. More likely to get this thread deleted and permanently end the discussion

Jupiter2Mars · 19/11/2016 08:33

silfoundmyusername - I am so sorry for what happened to you, but I don't think that's anything like what the op was trying to say.

Jinglebellsandv0dka · 19/11/2016 08:35

I wonder if posters purposely join this site to navigate round it in a rage looking for posts they can kick off at..

Jupiter2Mars · 19/11/2016 08:35

Either the op gets back here and speaks for herself or I'm hiding this thread. I definitely don't want to be confused with rape apology statements.

StrictlyPan · 19/11/2016 08:36

I'd got to the "I'm not racist but.." place to. OP you're just being a sneaky GF with not a lot else going on in life.
Fwiw I am a male. And we now have a 16 yo girl as a regular and she is very well received. Odd how things work out.
With Liv all the way.

RebootYourEngine · 19/11/2016 08:36

How do you even know who is a parent unless they post it? I like to read AIBU, chat, telly addicts, they are not parenting topics. They are for anyone.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 19/11/2016 08:38

However, I can see how if you were new you might think 'how weird, a parenting forum with loads of non parenting topics.' And if you were a bit naive, you'd post about it in AIBU and get ripped to shreds.

OP however has apparently been a member for years......
