Children's tea time?

So I have 3 dcs a nearly 4yo and 3yo and a 10 month old. They get up every mor I get and have breakfast at 7-7:30 they then have the lunch at playgroup at 12-12:30 I then prepare their evening meal and it is always ready for 4-4:30 they are then in bed at 6:10.

Here my albu many people (including MIL) have commented asking why I feed them their evening meal so early even when I explain their day theyou are still adamant on it being too early for them. So AIBU to have tea at 4-4:30 or are they?

YADNBU

you've got the evening to yourself.

You're living the dream.

I think it's normally to feed them dinner at that time - it's not normal to eat with them though (unless just a snack). If as an adult you eat with them, you must be bloody starving a few hours later!

Bedtime seems a bit early but if it works for you then so be it, teatime is also fine seeing as when they go to bed. When DD was little she was always in bed asleep by 7.30 and I always had tea ready for her by 4.45pm.

Am amazed at how everyone manages this! In between work and swimming lessons etc my kids never eat before 6.30 and I consider it a success if they're in bed by 8. Even at weekends we are out and about so much we don't seem to eat any earlier. If mine are at nursery/after-school club they eat there about 4.30 but still want something else when they get home. We never used to eat early when I was a child though so maybe I'm just used to things this way.

My kids are teenagers and they STILL want their tea at 4.30 Hmm

I do an early tea if dd hasn't had a snack. Nothing wrong with it and she sleeps better. Bedtime is about six and she's asleep before 7 always.

It depends on what works best for the children I think, everyone's routines will be different. A few months ago we all (me, DP, DS1 (8) and DS2 (2)) ate together at around 6:30pm, with little DS going to bed for 8pm and big DS following at 8:30pm.

Now DS2 is at nursery and has dropped his nap he can barely keep his eyes open past 5:30pm.

DS2 gets lunch at 11:30am and dinner at 4pm. Bed by 6pm latest.

DS1 is barely home from school by 4pm so has a snack when he comes in and dinner at 5:30pm. Bedroom for 7:30pm, lights out by 8:30pm.

DP and I eat dinner at 8ish and go to bed around 10:30/11pm

It's totally hectic right now but it's working, it's not like it'll be this way forever.
