Do I need to take her to A&E now!

DD aged 10 has a UTI for past 2 days. Took a sample in to Drs who refused to do a dip test as they are expensive even though she had antibiotics 5 days before for same. Not called me today and DD is now in pain. Given Calpol and loads of water but not sure if I need to take her to A&E. The AIBU is would I be to take her?

Make her drink loads of water, lots and lots. She will then need to hold that in for a really long time, as long as she possibly can (it'll be painful but she needs to try and ignore the pain) then when she really needs to go for a long wee, that will push any bacteria stuck there out. I do this every time I have a uti which was suggested to me by a friend who also gets regular water infections. It's very successful but needs will power!

I'd take her. If it hasn't cleared after one round of antibiotics then it could become a kidney infection. The children's bits are usually not as horrific as normal A&E and they'll quickly triage and decide. If it's not going after mess then it's likely to get worse surely?

Just seen your update! Sorry about that. Glad he's referring her for ultrasound, it could very well be something else!
My doctor thought I had a peptic ulcer. He was so certain of it but referred for ultrasound anyway, I actually have gallstones.

Potatooooo that's good to know. If not for DD for me!

And a hot water bottle on the tummy can help. Hope she feels better soon Flowers

If she's got back or abdominal pain, feels feverish or wobbly, or is being sick - she needs medical attention asap as it could be travelling to her kidneys which can necessitate an IV of antibiotics ...
