Aibu to be kicking myself - I just gave the babysitter £15 in £5 notes and she inspected them and jumped up and down as she had an AA13___

Apparently worth loads. Grrr.

Not everything shown as "sold" on ebay is actually sold. Some things have been accidentally "sold" to shills and are relisted if people are blatant or listed again by the same person using a different account. Some buyers never pay up. So don't take "sold" prices as gospel.

There was a guy on eBay selling a 'rare upside down fiver'.

It was so obvious that it was a joke but people were bidding ludicrous amounts! Grin

MetalMidget · 18/11/2016 09:04

Being listed as 'sold' on eBay doesn't mean the transaction has gone through, just that the item has been bidded on, any reserve met and the auction ended. Someone 'sold' a £5 with the AK47 number for thousands, but the winning bidder was just taking the piss with no intention of paying.

Temporaryname137 · 18/11/2016 09:06

We've hung onto a couple of AA's just in case, but from what I read, people aren't actually paying out and they are indeed worth a fiver!

Newsflash, money is worth money.

And sometimes lots of money to coin (and note) collectors. Weird as it is it's true that some early denomination notes will sell for more than their face value. Thinking it's silly doesn't deny that it's true.

I think playing the lottery is silly but some people do win.

Proof you can't reason with stupid...

I took £60 out of the cashpoint and all were AA01 five pound notes. I sold them on ebay for between £20 and £25 pounds. Not a massive amount but a nice surprise.

Jonsnowsghost · 18/11/2016 09:20

I just checked the one in my purse..it has an AK 47 number and instead of putting it on eBay for £50,000 (as I've just seen Hmm) I'm going to spend it on chocolate Grin

I got given a paper one yesterday. I'm planning to hold on to that for nostalgia reasons, as they'll soon be gone.

Haven't ever checked the serial numbers on new ones. I don't get it. Why do people want to pay loads of money to own it? What do you do with it then? It will all die down (has already really) and will the hustle a fiver with a number on it.... Hardly exciting!
