It made me feel...odd. Or something. To hear people bidding thousands and thousands of pounds to play tennis at the Queens Club. I know all the money goes to charity. I know its a worthwhile cause. But it made me feel strangely uncomfortable and I don't really know why.

"Big thanks goes to Clive in Cheshire who has bid an amazing £35k for 10 minutes in the same room as Chris from Coldplay!! massive cheering and backroom applause * Well done Clive you are changing peoples lives mate, thank you thank you thank you"

Well what do you expect them to say?

"Some wanker called Clive just donated £35k, what a tosser, I bet he makes at least £250k a year from his extensive buy-to-let portfolio and here's betting he does a bit of creative accounting to keep his tax bill down as well, what a bellend, hope he gets knob rot, fuck you Clive, you're the problem not the solution." Hmm

My Clive's not married (see my earlier post). Does she live in Cheshire? Maybe he has his eye on her and it's a surprise gift?

Clive may be a wanna be Philip Green with a smaller Yacht with a portfolio of family homes instead of corporate buildings. Many of his staff are on 0 hour contracts on minimum wage, struggling badly in over priced poor quality housing. Some of his employes only cope because of food banks and charities such as CIN. Clive thinks he's a big shot and wants everybody to know it, how better than a nationally broadcast auction where he can donate the money publically.

Well I'll take a few hours of shite radio to raise a shed load of cash. < shrugs>

He's regretting ever picking up the phone now Mackerel. A fiver in the bucket and a nice 'thank you' from the Collector it is in future!

So scaredy that would make him a prick, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't put his money to good use.

If we don't accept charitable donations from arseholes, they're not going to suddenly want to put their excess cash into paying decent wages.

Yes £35 grand to charity instead of the half a million you haven't paid out in taxes, fair wages sounds really moral to me. We must all grovel at Clives feet and be grateful for the scraps that he gives us.

It doesn't make me feel uncomfortable and I am prepared to believe that the people bidding are doing so out of the goodness of their hearts rather than to be ostentatious. I am also aware it raises a huge amount of money for charity.

However I always end up changing to Classic FM this week as frankly it is a bit boring. I really can't see why the general public would be expected to have any interest in which of a group of rich individuals they don't know and will never meet get to secure a prize that probably many people wouldn't be that bothered about having anyway.

I like the Chris Evans show and usually listen on my way to work. But not when this week comes around and it was the same when TW did the show.

Yep that's totally what I said.

Oh, hang on. What I actually said was that if we can get money from pricks via charitable donations then it's better than fuck all.

Thewrath, does a Philip Green as an extreme example explain my point better? Papers all over him, look at his wonderful parties that he throws on his yacht, all the events he attends throws, isn't he a nice man, so generous. Infact we were watching him spend BHS employees pensions and destroying a national institution.

A reminder that we have absolutely no idea who these people are.

I used to hate it when it was called the auction for things money can't buy. When in fact only people with shed loads of money could buy the things Angry

Scaredy it doesn't matter whether it's Clive of Philip Green. It's al money to a good cause and it all gets spent the same.

What you're talking about is a whole other discussion. In the context of CIN or any other charity I don't care where the money comes from, just that it comes.

£5 to enter the competition to go to the Dine and Disco (which I always thought was called the Diamond Disco) today.
