To be sick of the rubbish that youtubers fill our DCs with?

I've always had my doubts but DD13 loves YouTube and I usually let her make her own judgements. However after conversation with DD19 tonight about what some of the more well known youtubers have been pushing and a request from DD13 for jars of coconut oil for xmas I've had enough

To give a few examples, DD13 follows a woman who has told her viewers time and again that soap is toxic and they should wash head to toe in coconut oil. Another she follows according to DD19 is plant based which basically means she has to manage her diet very meticulously and at great cost to avoid being malnourished but encourages her teen viewers to do the same. Lastly DD19 told me about a youtuber who did a 'period routine' Confused in which she told her young viewers not to wear voluminous mascara on days when they had their period.. that light makeup was best Hmm

Anyone else with me on this?

Softkitty2 very rarely is any money actually spent on hauls. The youtubers all have agents and sponsorships, hauls will be done with vouchers or gifts, these aren't necessarily declared or declared in such small print you would never notice.

So it looks like a normal person living a normal life can shop like this/ uses this much product to a teen or pre-teen but it's as far from real life as you can get.

There was a programme on recently, BBC I think called 'clean eatings dirty secrets

Yeah they basically all had EDs as well didn't they! Anorexics evangelizing about 'clean eating' to impressionism teenagers FFS.

The absolute clap trap that these people come out with "Gluten scours your gut raw and is inherently bad for everyone" FUCK OFF NO IT DOES'T AND NO IT ISN'T UNLESS YOU ARE COELIAC!

"Eat only bananas to be healthy and thin" ARGH

What upsets me more is that intelligent people blindly believe this crap from total idiots who have no reasonable basis for their bullshit assertions.

Doyouremeberjustinbobby I am HOWLING Grin

Can I just address the fact that I do not let my DD have 'free reign' of the internet but she is 13 and watches with her friends.

I'm not into the 'policing' style of parenting however I do think its time for a good chat with her about airhead you tubers and their cash motivated bullshit!

I don't believe in banning youtube for teens.

As to jars of coconut oil.... everyone will get horrendously blocked drains, as this stuff solidifies....

Help your dd to see the coconut oli frenzy for the silly thing it is.

There are some brilliant YouTube channels and my kids have learnt loads of interesting stuff from it.
However, there's also lots of rubbish.
Why don't you watch some of the stuff that you are concerned about so that you can have a proper discussion with your child. It's far more effective than just telling her that this stuff is rubbish.

What about the utube videos aimed at younger kids like 'Amy jo' and hallies playhouse - "hey guys" videos my Dcs call them!! Or the one where there's just a family (from York I think?) with 3 girls just filming their whole everyday life - like going shopping, having a pub lunch, opening birthday pressies, what on earth is all that about??
