I'm a firefighter. For the second week we've responded to fires set by a group of kids. We have got to know them and don't want them to get into trpuble but now the police accompany us. One of the wee boys is only 8 years old, smokes dope and is out till well after midnight.
Wtf is his parents or social services!
If you don't know where your wee boy is at that time of night you aren't fit to have him.
Sorry rant over but it's so sad to see.

My brothers a fire fighter. One if his watch accidentally Hmm turned the hose on a group a couple of years back. So much more effective than anything the police or parents could do

Hes lucky he didnt get the sack! Bet we would see the parents then looking for a claim! The rules are pretty clear as tempting as it is x

A spank on the arse is needed? Are you serious? These kids are growing up surrounded by extreme violence, which makes them angry and violent as a result. Violence is normalised, kids are brought up under the threat of a 'leathering' as punishment, yet encouraged to fight like dogs out on the street. All part of the culture.

We have similar to Glasgow but on a much smaller scale and our degeneration can be seen in pockets, borough wide. it is worse in summer though as obviously more kids about in nicer warmer weather.

We did have various professionals who worked together to try to combat the issues of anti social behaviour and it did improve throughout the summer.
All areas don't have the human resources though.

Wtf is his parents or social services!
If he's in care I don't think they are allowed to lock children up to prevent them leaving

Shellym13 · 13/11/2016 21:30

Ok do what do you suggest? We've tried engagement and all the other nicely nicely approach in between getting bricks chucked at us. Think the last resort is get them arrested and get them into the legal system?

Their parents are probably out in a pub somewhere.

OnwardsAndUpwardsYo · 13/11/2016 22:05

I am yet to read replies but my gut reaction made me write this...8?!? I am actually shocked. My 8 year old, and most of the class, are tucked up asleep by 8.30. The poor child. 😞

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/11/2016 22:09

8 years old and smoking dope. OMG. That's a baby.

OnwardsAndUpwardsYo · 13/11/2016 22:10

Well I'm shocked and saddened, jocktamsonsbairns. I knew Glasgow had it's problems but didn't know this type of behaviour was commonplace.

OnwardsAndUpwardsYo · 13/11/2016 22:13

I actually feel very sad, it's troubling me. The area is, presumably from replies, financially deprived? What I don't understand is, why does having low income/financial problems cause this? Parents are still parents whatever the money situation. We've been broke, at risk of losing our home kind of broke, it didn't stop us taking care of the children or turn them into delinquents.

Genuine question.

Shellym13 · 13/11/2016 22:36

The poor kids aren't to blame its a product of how they have Been brought up. Absolutely awful. What chance do they have really?

It's depressing how many teenage drunks we get too. I'm not talking 18/19 year olds but 14 year olds. Found unconscious or covered in vomit due to alcohol

NotEnoughTime · 14/11/2016 10:46

It's awful OP but I don't know what the solution is Sad

NeedsAsockamnesty · 14/11/2016 22:27

shelly

Getting them into the legal system may be rather more helpful than most people realise.

Youth offending teams have early intervention that is unlikely to harm future prospects and can make a huge amount of difference

I work with a middle eastern anaesthetist. She's worked all over the world, in all sorts of hospitals, but reckons she's never seen anything like Glasgow for deprivation and poverty. :(
