To tell DH to sleep on the sofa?

DH has come in drunk after a boozy afternoon with his mates, which is fine, but he absolutely stinks of alcohol. Our 6 month old DD is currently still sleeping in our bedroom and so I have told DH that he has to sleep on the sofa. He isn't too happy and sees no reason why he can't sleep in our bed.

AIBU to make him sleep downstairs? Won't the fumes from him increase the risk of SIDS?

Yanbu. The fumes are ok but him rolling around isn't.

Can you soften it by making it cosy for him?

Creampastry · 13/11/2016 20:16

You should be more concerned about the risk of him rolling on dd. Send him to the sofa.

LouBlue1507 · 13/11/2016 20:18

Is DD in a cot or in your bed? Makes a big difference!

Casmama · 13/11/2016 20:18

If the baby sleeps in your bed then absolutely he should sleep elsewhere but if she is in a cot in your room then I think you are overreacting.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 13/11/2016 20:18

Why the assumption that the baby is in their bed?

Sorry I should have said, DD is in her cot, not our bed.

OP says "bedroom" not "bed."

You don't serioussly think the "fumes" would be a risk do you?!

Sweets101 · 13/11/2016 20:24

No the fumes won't make any difference at all. I think you are being a little unreasonable (although I was the same with my first)

TartanBiscuit · 13/11/2016 20:24

anaisB you can't smell him!Wink
I thought I read about the fumes somewhere...

I don't know about the fumes but you should ask him to have a shower, change his clothes and brush his teeth if he's minging.

ByeByeLilSebastian · 13/11/2016 20:27

Ah sorry I assumed bed. In that case you are being a bit over the top, although I can understand not wanting to sleep in a brewery!

LouBlue1507 · 13/11/2016 20:28

YABU to ask him to sleep on the sofa, tell him to have a shower and brush his teeth!

baconandeggies · 13/11/2016 20:28

fumes and SIDS is usually in relation to cigarette smoke or mattress chemicals... Not entirely unreasonable that alcohol fumes could be bad too - though nothing proven.

Getnakedorgohome · 13/11/2016 20:29

I wouldn't want to sleep next to him stinking but the fumes won't cause harm to your baby, it's only smell, not like cigarette smoke. Compromise and let him in if he showers and brushes his teeth? Although if he's anything like my dh he'd still stink after that...

5OBalesofHay · 13/11/2016 20:29

I don't think that's a big risk. Are you pissed off with him?

Bagina · 13/11/2016 20:29

Our rules mean that drinking equals sofa. The bloody snoring!! It's just not fair.

NothingIsOK · 13/11/2016 20:30

Nevertheless mind the baby, we have an agreement now that a very drunk person whose partner is not drunk should sleep downstairs. Everyone sleeps better and no one has the arsehole with each other in the morning.

TartanBiscuit · 13/11/2016 20:33

Thanks everyone.

I'm not pissed off with him at all (I intend to have a drunken girls night at some point!)but I was worried about the fumes.

Once he wakes up (currently asleep on sofa) I will get him to have a shower and he can come to bed. He doesn't snore when drunk thankfully.

Fair enough, I'm sure there's no risk to health. Hope you get a good nights sleep!
