Cake!

(This is a what should I do, as clearly the only AIBU is not stuffing it all in my face.)

Been up north with family for the weekend and picked up 5 sexy cakes from a local baker to take to work for my/colleague's birthdays. Taking them back to London in the car. They have buttercream icing. Do I leave them in the car overnight to stay cool or take them inside? The flat isn't boiling hot but is warmer than the car obv.

Thanks!!

(Cake porn, to show the extent of the buttercream!)

Cake!

Oooo can I work with you??

Patriciathestripper1 · 13/11/2016 18:35

Leave in car in boot

Eminybob · 13/11/2016 18:35

That popcorn one looks amazing.

No advice to give though sorry

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 13/11/2016 18:36

I assume you won't be able to fit them all in the fridge?

BewtySkoolDropowt · 13/11/2016 18:37

I have the perfect place to store them, I'll come by and pick them up just in a mo...

Temporaryname137 · 13/11/2016 18:37

Thanks Patricia! I don't bake at all so part of me thinks the cream is better outside; part of me thinks that might make the cake go funny - I am so clueless!

The toffee popcorn one is my favourite too Grin

car definantly, god, i see this stuff and, grrr, diabetes is a bitch Smile

Temporaryname137 · 13/11/2016 18:37

No, the fridge wouldn't fit them all.

Unless I chuck out all DP and the baby's food for the week... Hmmmmm....!

Those look beautiful. I'm hungry ( for cake ) now.

I would store in the car, a bit cooler.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 13/11/2016 18:40

Or you can nibble on them strategically so they shrink and fit in?
Just a suggestion....It's not like your colleagues will notice.

Temporaryname137 · 13/11/2016 18:44

Haha! So long as I nibble in perfect concentric circles

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 13/11/2016 18:50

some of it looks like whipped cream, not buttercream?

How long are you planning to keep them? Do you and your colleagues all have birthdays this week?! That's going to be one well-stocked staff-room. (Or are they supposed to take them home?)

Kpo58 · 13/11/2016 18:50

YABU not to eat them all before getting back home...

RubyGoat · 13/11/2016 18:51

They should be fine in the car overnight. What's the temp predicted to be? As long as your boot isn't over your engine (I don't own a car so know nothing about this - but do bake - a lot!)

teacher54321 · 13/11/2016 18:51

Car definitely. They look delish!

Temporaryname137 · 13/11/2016 18:54

I'm taking them in tomorrow morning and they won't last the day, I'm sure of that! (It's a big office)

No, boot is in the back, away from the engine, so no fumes!

Update: cakes enjoyed their night in the chilly car and I managed to get them into work without smashing them. Thanks all, I will have some v happy colleagues in about 10 mins :)

Camomila · 14/11/2016 10:53

Ooh lovely! I think the one with the strawberries is whipped cream, I'd put that one in the fridge and leave the rest in the boot.

If DS is in a good mood this afternoon (snotty poorly baby) I might make a sponge.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/11/2016 11:02

In this weather I would leave them in the car, no worries. But what I need to know is, where did they come from?

I am 'up north', so depending on where you went, more cakes like those could be just around the corner from me, or still hundreds of miles away, if your 'up north' is actually Scotland.

user1471950254 · 14/11/2016 11:05

You are an amazing colleague! They look yummy

Temporaryname137 · 14/11/2016 12:00

I found her at the monthly food fair in Wilmslow - think it travels around Cheshire; I certainly know it's on in Wilmslow again next weekend. so it depends if you think that Cheshire counts as up north or if it's the midlands to you Grin. Some of her creations are crazy, eg one that was smothered in haribo and mini milky ways etc was very cool indeed.

I'm not really a cake fan myself, but in the interest of research, tried the salty caramel and chocolate and the lemon ones, can confirm that they are delicious.

Spare a thought for DP, who co-ordinated dragging them 200 miles down here without squashing them - and didn't even get to taste one!

I don't think they would keep in either so I will mind them for you 😇😇😉😇
