AIBU to think it's inappropriate/insensitive?

Fireworks are nothing to do with Halloween...

I don't find it objectionable. The dates for Armistice Day and Guy Fawkes night happen to be close.

Given so many veterans struggle with fireworks because of the memories the loud bangs bring back it seems an odd way to remember!

This. My BIL doesn't like them at all.

I was rather upset today that people in my office were typing through the 2 min silence. 60 million dead. One day of quiet reflection is not unreasonable.

Today is nothing to do with VE Day. It is about remembering those who gave their lives in conflict and war. It is a day for reflection not bloody celebration.

Presumably it's a late fireworks party of some sort?

I don't really see a connection with Armistice day - I'm sure many people are out tonight in pubs, restaurants, clubs, attending parties etc, just like any Friday night?

Is there a Christmas lights switching on ceremony near you? That may account for the fireworks. There was one near me last night for that reason.

YANBU OP. It was always a quiet day with no overspill of November 5 and definitely not Christmas.

There were fireworks near here too.

And someone set one off the other day in the afternoon. Also had a display of them about 4.00 a.m last week. No need for it at all.

It does seem inappropriate in remembrance of the men killed by shells and bombs. And for those left with PTSD.
