Having prepare two child outfits within two weeks?

I've received email from school, it'll be Cinderella week on 21 .11 and children should come in Cinderella outfit . Fine. I'll try find something for my boy , not big choice, prince or knight? The same day my son brought another letter , saying it'll be Christmas play , 2.12 and outfit is needed for it to. AIBU for being miffed about this? Two outfits within two weeks is too much? And we just had Halloween.

I think it is far too much. It seems sometimes as if schools send out these 'requests' with little or no consideration for the burden it places on parents.

We generally get 2 days notice here, which is madness.

If it's not cheap or too much hassle I just don't do it. It's not compulsory

Well what's the Christmas outfit? DD's school makes a big point of saying that it doesn't expect parents to go to masses of trouble or expense for costumes. So your cinderella costume could just be smart clothes (for prince) or do something like dress him in brown (for a rat). I imagine all the girls will just wear scruffy clothes or princess dresses (even if not Cinderella). If that sort of thing wouldn't be acceptable at your school, maybe the issue is actually other parents who go OTT so others feel obliged to follow?

My daughter's catholic primary school has 'cancelled' the Xmas nativity for years 3, 4 and 5 this year to do a big easter thing instead. All the mums are gutted. I'd rather have to find a costume than not have a Xmas nativity!

Do you know what the costume is for the Xmas play yet? You may be able to get away with something you already have at home? Or charity shop? May not have to be expensive or time consuming...

The advantage of an early nativity is that you list the costume on eBay before the play and post ASAP.

Make him a mouse for Cinderella? You could draw a nose and whiskers on with eyeliner, buy a cheap headband and attach some felt ears.

Sainsbury's do cheap costumes, so do Asda. If I need to buy costumes I buy them big so they can be reused for another dress up day. This is how primary school is IME. My dc also have 2 dress ups in 2 weeks, it's that time of year.

Agree with OP it's way too much. Why doesn't the school have the Christmas play costumes? Not only would that save a lot of hassle but it's not very environmentally friendly having every kid buy their own heap of polyester year on year.

Had all of this last year with various dressing up days all in December. It really pissed me off. When I was at school we made our costumes or would reuse ones from the previous years which belonged to the school. We have about 4 mufti days coming up soon which I also find ridiculous and annoying.
