AIBU?

Is this a shit gift?

A group of friends and I are doing secret santa this year with a 15 pound limit. The person I've got is so hard to buy for! She just buys everything she wants as she is very wealthy! Things like bath stuff or anything girly is a no no. She does like her spicy food and spent a lot of time in India and her partner is Indian and she cooks that style of food.

I've come across a gift set with all kinds of spices in including some rare ones. Does this sound ok to you or does it sound like a shit present?!

How strict is the budget?

plants4presents.co.uk/plants.aspx?sit=2

They've got bay trees, curry leaves and chilli plants...

I sent my mum a pineapple plant from there once, she was quite taken with growing her own pineapple

I'd go with some lovely bath stuff or posh chocolates. Just because she can afford to buy it herself doesn't mean it's not nice to be given it as a gift.

Is it only Indian she cooks or does she delve in to baking? If she cooks biscuits how about a personalised biscuit Stamp?

Ohh I love the pineapple plant idea.

Robin chocolates are a possibility but she doesn't like anything in her bath water

I have an Indian DP and definitely have no need for spices!

What about a Masala Dabba?

Even if she already has one, you can never have too many really. You can get dinky little spoons for them too.

She doesn't bake pumpkin. I do though Grin

Ok we have a stylish and wealthy lady to buy for (she sounds exactly like me! Smile On Bombayduck.com I just saw a lovely set of 4 handmade brass spoons, ideal for measuring spices, they look quite expensive and are £15.00 tempted to order for myself. Lots of other lovely bits on that site in your budget.

Oh, don't tell me that! I can't resist lovely kitchen and house bits. I want these spoons now (and the matching bowls)

"Indian sweets might be good, a bit different"

Not if she's married to someone form India.

I'm finding this thread a bit weird actually. She's married to an Indian man, it does not mean all she might want are Indian species, Indian cook books and sweets Hmm

I'm indian and would actually love this as a gift, yes we have loads of spices at home, but you can never have enough. if they do loads of cooking then they will get used. Considering its secret santa and not a present for someone who means the world to you, its a pretty decent gift.

Grumpy that's a great idea thanks!!

bakeoff she would never buy sweets etc for herself. Yes she is with an Indian man but her love of India came long before he did! There is the option to leave the thread if it's too wierd for you Smile

I think it's a lovely idea. I have to say I hate bath stuff I don't use it and allergic to a lot of stuff so every year for our secret Santa I get some kind of bath/hand cream but at the end of day it's just a nice little get together at work. this year I have bought mine one of those giant champagne Glass.

I reckon anything you can use up is an excellent secret santa idea - I cook a lot and burn through spices too. I like the idea of a meal kit though, I've bought one from the spicery or somewhere as a gift before and it worked out fine.

What about a meal kit for a similar food from a different area? I think they do like West Indian, Indonesian or African options too, so you can have something nice and spicy but something she might not already have tried.

I cook a lot of Pakistani food and love serving it in dishes like this or this.

Also think the serving spoons suggest by Grumpy and the bay tree are nice ideas.

How about some chutneys, as they are longer lasting and get used up, you could buy 2 or 3 for that money (or more if you go to an indian supermarket)
But I am biased I LOVE chutney.
