To think there's nothing wrong with pirates as toys

My Somalian husband thinks pirates as toys is completely inappropriate and they shouldn't be made or used as toys as pirates are criminal and nasty people.

He moved here when he was 11 so has grown up with British culture.
I've never even thought about it before,
What do you think. AIBU to think there's nothing wrong with pirates as toys?

I live in an area that has real problems with gun crime and I find toy guns pretty repellent, as they are simply too close to home (we've had shootings happen very close to our home). It hasn't come up but I would never buy DD a toy gun (I mean those gun replica toys, not a water pistol) and I would be happy to tell her why.

yabu. Your husband is completely entitled to find them appalling.

I think he has a valid point. And he obviously feels very strongly about it. Why can't you respect that? Pirates aren't an essential part of childhood. Just steer clear of them.

I agree with him. I find it very odd that we glamorise these rapist and murders.

However, it is standard stuff and I keep that to myself.

I had never given it any thought previously, but instantly made the connection to modern day pirates in place like Somalia on seeing the thread title.

I think his view is entirely reasonable.
