I have at least 3 friends on FB who all put their trees up last week. It's the first week in November for the love of god! I would be sick to death of the sight of it by xmas. Mine goes up 12 days before xmas and back down 12 days after x

Pesonally for me its far too early.
Xmas should be a special time of the year (for whatever reason you celebrate it) AT a specific time of the year. Not 2 months of Xmas just a few weeks.

I do start buying early but thats just financial reasons. I dont put up decs till first weekend in Dec at the earliest and thats just cos kids mither me Smile I love Xmas time but I dont want it for 2 months, it takes away the magic and the meaning, for us its family time going out to nice Xmassy places and staying in and chilling out together. Thats not going to happen in November!

What others do is up to them, I just couldnt be bothered with the mess and dusting around a million decorations for 2 months.

YANBU.
But saying that, I have a white wool wrapped tree in the living room all year round. I have non seasonal stuff on it most of the time such as felted hearts and animals but at Easter/Christmas/Halloween I add festive decs to it. I've also got lights on it. I know it's crazy but it makes me happy.

Our decorations go up the first weekend in December ,and come down on the 28/29th so it's all clear for the New Year . DH and DS will put it all up this year as I'm away .

Highlandfling80 · 09/11/2016 15:16

Yanbu. They are the same people who take them down before 12th night. At least wait till December.

Chipsahoy · 09/11/2016 16:10

Autumn decs go up mid Sept, Halloween ones added to it mid Oct. A few days after Halloween the Halloween ones get replaced by Thanksgiving decs. Then a few days after Thanksgiving all the decs come down and are replaced by xmas ones. Normally end of November or beginning of December.
Love it.

If you need to dust your Christmas decorations then they are up too long.

Clarinet1 · 09/11/2016 16:23

In our house it's decorations up on Christmas Eve and down on January 6th - the twelve days of Christmas.

We are currently at Center Parcs, Woburn.

The whole place has been transferred from normal family stuff that we did in June, to a festive Christmas wonderland. I struggled to book anything for our nearly 4 yo grandson as its way too early for Xmas, but now we're here he's done the elf academy, an elf hunt and cross bow shooting (not Xmas themed). Tomorrow he's making a Christmas stocking ( and I'm having a massage!)

I'm an extreme trimmer upper.I 'extreme' trim for Easter, halloween and Christmas and also have seasonal trimmings that I rotate through the year (only an Autumn wreath thing and and some Spring stuff), plus some birthday bunting I put up for the DD's.
Most people I know regard my trimming up as excessive.
And even I wait for the 1st December at the earliest to put my tree up!

iklboo · 09/11/2016 17:18

Ours will probably go up 3 December this year. We've got other decorations & outsidey stuff this year too.

We're also doing a community 'advent window' - participating houses are given a number 1-24 and you decorate / put a Christmas themed display in your front window on that day.

I've never put mine up before 1st December and I love Christmas to the point of madness. DH would go mad if I dared. To be fair I'm not keen on Christmas songs and carols til December, too.

We're building up to the Christmas theme at school by getting the Reception children singing their nativity songs, that's festive enough for me.

deeedeee · 09/11/2016 17:22

the council has put up our town christmas tree this afternoon :-(

OhSoggyBiscuit · 09/11/2016 17:27

I have one set of lights on, but it's been so grey, dull, rainy and cold today I think it's justified.

ShelaghTurner · 09/11/2016 17:31

Up to them I guess. We put ours up around the 10th Dec and they come down New Year's Day. Can't bear the decs being up in the new year.

ShelaghTurner · 09/11/2016 17:34

Lights don't count btw. I love seeing trees and hedges lit up.
