There was no good choice in this election and although it's disappointing, if Hilary got in there would be worried posts about her too. I think all these posts and comments the 'end is nigh' comments are a bit OTT

OP posts:
Fintress · 09/11/2016 08:54

Fenella I do indeed. It seems you don't

growapear · 09/11/2016 08:56

We should remember that this is not the USSR, Trump is not a dictator, he can't just steam in there and tear up the constitution, look at the obstacles Obama faced whenever he tried to introduce major legislation.

KidLorneRoll · 09/11/2016 08:58

Aye, but that was because the senate and congress were republican. Which they still are, just now with a batshit crazy republican president.

PhilODox · 09/11/2016 09:01

Grow- republicans control both houses, have blocked Obama from appointing to the supreme court. So they'll control that too now.
They can do a hell of a lot more than Obama could.

Fintress/ gin - a hearing date was set, and now she has withdrawn her complaint, that will not go ahead.
That's not imagination.

He's also been bankrupt 6 times, so good luck America.

Lucydogz · 09/11/2016 09:08

YANBU. I'm not happy about the result, but totally agree with your post.

dworky · 09/11/2016 09:09

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

growapear · 09/11/2016 09:09

I find it interesting that the left are the ones clamouring to maintain a political system which people genuinely believe has failed them. Trump, like Farage, appealed to people who felt that they were not represented by the guardian/BBC/C4 swallowing liberals. What's being written around the world now is that the majority of the US electorate hate gays, hate women (despite women electing trump) and hate blacks. This is nonsense.

kathArtic · 09/11/2016 09:14

I don't think he was voted in because the people like him and his policies, just the alternative/status quo was worse.

As said on BBC the Americans have had 30 years of the Bush/Clinton dynasties and want change.

mathanxiety · 09/11/2016 09:14

I am in the US and was struck by a piece of TV commentary during the long night to the effect that the only people equally as depressed about this result as the Democrats are is several sections of the Republican Party, which if you recall was bitterly divided, with the huge cracks very poorly patched over in the interest of unity while they braced themselves for a historic humiliation at the polls, as a result of Trump's candidacy.

Some Republicans looked ahead to the midterm elections and distanced themselves as much as they possibly could from Trump. They are no doubt not sleeping too well tonight. The fundamentalists have to be wondering if Mike Pence's presence will be enough to get them what they want. Paul Ryan may well be toast. Ted Cruz likewise...

Whoever the commentator was, imo they hit the nail on the head.

growapear · 09/11/2016 09:16

math

Good points, they all deserted the ship when it looked like he wasn't going to win, McCain, Romney et al. Are they going to support him now ? I've a feeling they will....

Fintress · 09/11/2016 09:16

He's also been bankrupt 6 times, so good luck America.

Again you're wrong. He has bankrupted 'some' (less than half a dozen) of his companies in the past which is very different to being personally bankrupt 6 times.

rumbelina · 09/11/2016 09:17

*It's very easy to say 'it's not that bad', and politically speak I don't believe it will be. However, there are people in the USA now who are genuinely vulnerable to an attack on their home/business/place of worship - voting in that man has only confirmed to some that their far right veiws are correct.

If we thought the rise in racist attacks in the U.K. were bad, I hate to think what those who have guns/are part of a militia are going to do after today. I hope no one gets killed in the coming days.*

You might not be worried for yourself OP but what about people out there who actually have to deal with this shit???

devilinmyshoes · 09/11/2016 09:18

How can you not be even a tiny bit worried? Will you be worried when Marine Le Pen is president of France?

peggyundercrackers · 09/11/2016 09:24

im not surprised he won. Clinton is part of the establishment and people are fed up of the establishment saying one thing and doing the opposite whilst smiling. Clinton has been proven to be and out and out liar time and time again, she tells so many lies she believes them herself. she wouldn't know the truth if it slapped her.

its time for political change, trump isn't the answer but is merely in the right place at the right time, he will go and someone else will take over soon enough.

Trump is no less part of the establishment than Clinton. He got rich off the back of his Daddy's money and by being a ruthless, exploitative cunt who doesn't care who he steps on. He is in no way an 'outsider' or an alternative, he is the establishment, x10 with an extra helping of fucking arsehole on the side.

daisychain01 · 09/11/2016 09:33

I'm confused. Last time I checked, America was a democracy! They have had 30 years of whoever they voted in. It wasn't like they woke up one day and found George Bush or Bill Clinton magically ensconced in the White House.

mathanxiety · 09/11/2016 09:34

PhilODox, bankruptcy can be a strategic business move in the US. The law and the perception of both business and personal bankruptcy in the US differ from bankruptcy in the UK.

daisychain01 · 09/11/2016 09:34

Trump is very orange isn't he. weird

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/11/2016 09:36

Donald trump trial info

Hellochicken · 09/11/2016 09:36

It is bad enough what he is and what he has said. People don't need to add extra!
The rape charge looks to be a sham from that Guardian article.

But I am a bit worried.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/11/2016 09:37

His other court case

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/11/2016 09:40

oh ok the rape case has been dropped.

shovetheholly · 09/11/2016 09:54

Given that Brexit hasn't actually happened yet, I think it's a bit premature to say that it 'hasn't changed much'. Grin
