AIBU to hope it's not Trump?

I'm not sure why I ever doubted Trump would win. America is a very racist country. In much of the south it is very depressing to be black, if not dangerous. If you're black you want to avoid coming into contact with the police at all. The outcomes are not good. They'll shoot first and ask questions later. So I'm not sure why people thought Trump's racist statements would put voters off. The opposite! Much of the electorate think, 'He hates them like we do! This guy is worth considering.'

steff13 · 09/11/2016 04:56

Are you in the US, charlestonchaplin?

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 09/11/2016 04:59

I set my alarm to get up to see history happen I really thought Clinton had it in the bag ( also not a fan ) but now I'm really worried about the world my kids are likely to wake up in in about 3 hours. I can't believe he's actually winning after all the disgusting things he's said and the fact he's not even allowed twitter!!

newyorker74 · 09/11/2016 05:04

It's not just a race thing though. A Trump presidency is much more complicated than one issue. It takes in the decline in manufacturing, a sense of distance between politicians and their constituents, social change which some people are against and all sorts of other things. It's a massive fuck you to the traditional politicians in the US.

HappyCamel · 09/11/2016 05:14

I think there's a huge feeling that Clinton is being bought by Muslims in Saudi Arabia and Qatar etc and Trump can't be bought. He's made his money and he's going to do what he thinks is right for America without lining his own pockets or playing political correctness. I also know quite a few Hispanics that don't want Mexican illegal immigrants taking their jobs.

I'm in the Southern States.

steff13 · 09/11/2016 05:18

He's winning a lot of traditionally Democrat states. That means a lot of people who voted for Obama in the last two elections are voting for Trump now.

HappyCamel · 09/11/2016 05:24

Steff I think it's more that people who would have voted for Sanders are staying home.

Perfectlypurple · 09/11/2016 05:25

I'm shocked. It looks like he will win 😰

pineapplepizza1 · 09/11/2016 05:28

Yep he's going to win!

RoseGoldHippie · 09/11/2016 05:33

Money's in trump but vote would be with Hilary

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 09/11/2016 05:47

I still think Hillary will get it.

It seems very much divided into red half and blue half and a few states on the blue half haven't voted yet.

Perfectlypurple · 09/11/2016 05:48

I can't get my head round a country that votes in a black president voting for a racist bigot like trump. It just doesn't make sense to me.

HappyCamel · 09/11/2016 05:52

Purple from what I've seen here (I'm in a very Republican area, I don't have a vote myself) Obama hasn't positively impacted people's lives.

African Americans feel let down by him. Teachers have had an 80% increase in medical insurance contributions (to over $1500 a month) since Obamacare.

There seems to be a myth in the U.K. that Obama is still liked in the US.

ScarlettO89 · 09/11/2016 05:53

I wish I actually had put some money on Trump. At least there would be a silver lining here

Perfectlypurple · 09/11/2016 05:56

Thanks happy that makes sense. I was just being very simplistic! I still don't want trump to win though.

HappyCamel · 09/11/2016 06:00

Purple I don't have an opinion. I'm still trying to get over the fact that out of over 300 million people this is the best two they could come up with.

HermioneWeasley · 09/11/2016 06:02

Shitting hell. Looks like president trump.

Perfectlypurple · 09/11/2016 06:04

That's true happy. I don't actually know a great deal about politics, I usually go by gut feeling. I do find out more when I have to vote though. It's just hard to stomach that in 2016 people will vote for someone like him.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 09/11/2016 06:05

I honestly do not understand how anyone can vote for Trump. The man is an odious turd.

PickledCauliflower · 09/11/2016 06:34

I would have thought that his comments alone about assaulting women - would turn many off him.
I am amazed that one single woman voted for him, never mind him actually winning.

tupperwareAARGGH · 09/11/2016 06:40

I came across a woman through my work that stated 'Trump will win, everyone woman I know in Britain would vote for him'
I then asked why and her was 'He is amazing'
Cue me looking gobsmacked and saying 'he's a racist, homophobic, misogynist, I certainly wouldn't vote for him'

I was so shocked that she really thought he was amazing.

HappyCamel · 09/11/2016 06:40

Time has called PA for Trump

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 09/11/2016 06:42

This is a fucking terrible joke. America, what have you done?

Perfectlypurple · 09/11/2016 06:51

I don't know anyone that thinks trump is amazing - luckily I know good people.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 09/11/2016 07:02

That psychic goat was a bit crap, wasn't it?

He'll be a curry by dinner time.
