Isn't it just a Yorkshire / Northern saying?

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 07/11/2016 19:51

I am northern.
Are you demeaning my dialect?

People down south don't say trump?

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 07/11/2016 19:53

They do in this house. Or did. Now they say Donald

I'm from Yorkshire and we always said trump for fart. Now I'm in the North East everyone just seems to say fart. However I don't think they care what they sound like to us what with their fanny packs and all.

Boundaries · 07/11/2016 19:54

I think if it might put an additional few people off voting for him, do it...

MrsExpo · 07/11/2016 19:55

Not at all unreasonable IMO. In fact I did exactly that recently and they thought it summed him up perfectly, which tells you their voting intentions I suppose.

ChicRock · 07/11/2016 19:56

I love how some of the news reporters are referring to voters that are reluctant to admit they're voting for Trump as "silent Trumpers".

SquedgieBeckenheim · 07/11/2016 19:56

DH and I are originally southeners - we say trump as one of our many words for farts. It's not just a northern thing!
Don't think it'll put people off voting for him if they aren't bothered by his racism/sexism etc

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2016 19:56

I hadn't come across it till we moved to Lancashire.

Something on which Lancashire and Yorkshire agree has to be right.

Artandco · 07/11/2016 19:57

I love how a fart could president

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 07/11/2016 19:57

I was tempted to suggest that the thought of making themselves a global laughing stock might give them pause but something tells me that boat has sailed

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 07/11/2016 19:58

Oh and chortle at silent trumpers
Silent but deadly

Millionsmom · 07/11/2016 20:02

Nellie the elephant usd to make me giggle every time it came on 'A hand full of songs'.
Grin 'silent trumpers'

The sad thing is, most Americans I know don't have the ability to laugh at themselves. So best not to point it out.

AudreyBradshaw · 07/11/2016 20:04

Silent trumpers. Snigger. NW (Manchester) here and trump is a fart.
We also call it a bum laugh or a fluff in our house

Olympiathequeen · 07/11/2016 20:05

My tv never shows the full screen and tonight said RUMP FOR WHITEHOUSE?

Artandco · 07/11/2016 20:12

South east originally, and we said trump and fart

Artandco · 07/11/2016 20:13

Olympia- you might just have a dodgy tv, but have you actually checked your screen settings? Some block off the sides so maybe it can be changed?

grumpymcgrumpypants · 07/11/2016 20:14

Silent Trumpers Snort

originalmavis · 07/11/2016 20:15

I used to find it amusing.. actually Trump Towers still makes me snigger. The prospect of a Trump in the White House doesn't.

Grilledaubergines · 07/11/2016 20:15

Surrey here and trump is pretty standard. Not a northern thing at all.

Artandco · 07/11/2016 20:16

In the film Borat, doesn't he try and go to poo outside trump towers?

originalmavis · 07/11/2016 20:16

His mouth does look a bit anus like...

StarryIllusion · 07/11/2016 20:16

Only if you are aged 10 or under. I have never heard an adult say trump unless talking to a small child.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 07/11/2016 20:28

No, it's not exclusively Northern.

silent Trumpers that phrase is usually 'silent, but deadly'

Voters Beware!
