To want to get a new birth certificate for DS?

After DS was born, we duly took him to be registered, but I wasn't thinking straight and instead of going to the central office (in the middle of the city), we went to a smaller office in a suburb (with a bad rep but it's not all bad). Now on his birth certificate, it say born in [name of suburb, name of capital city]... AIBU to want to get it changed to just state the name of the city...?

You are being ridiculous, seriously just take a step back and think about what you are worrying about.

Mine all say the address they were born (two at hospital one at home) in the district of Glasgow. No mention of whatever part of the city Martha Street's in (up the town!). I think it's very unlikely you can get a new certificate because you fancy changing the location.

Both my babies were born in the same OR, in the same hospital, and registered in the same room in the same office, but 2 years apart.

They're registered as having been born in slightly different places. Confused Think one born in Manchester, and one in the more specific Didsbury.

It's like that on their passports too.

Why would you care? This is all snobbery.

As my Scottish DSIL would say Take your head out of your arse. It means absolutely nothing and will have no impact on his life.

In France place of birth goes onto every official document. It's the actual place where you were born - just the city, nothing more. Very very very few occasions call for your birth certificate.

I suspect your birth certificate is set once it's done. Would only be altered if there was a mistake on it.

Don't understand why you'd be bothered and I'm not sure they'd even let you for that reason.

At what point in your DC life do you think it will matter his birth certificate says a suburb you don't like?? Confused

WinterIsHereJon · 04/11/2016 21:26

What negative impact do you suppose this would have on his life?

We had the opposite problem - the town we used to live in had no maternity provision at the hospital so you gave birth in the neighbouring County if you wanted the nearest maternity hospital. The midwives would point out to residents of our town that you could register a birth in your home town so I think it must have been a concern for some (although it obviously doesn't change where your baby is born).

My DD is quite happy to have been born (and registered) in the same County as her dad, despite never having lived there!
