To Have a day off work and go aWol?

I have a flexi day I have to take off between now and next week. So no reason to cover school holidays or stuff like that.

I am planning on meeting a friend for dinner but have the whole day to myself. Aibu not to tell dh or family that I have the day off and to just spend it on my own?

I will be in London, have posted on chat for ideas of stuff to do but no response.

Walk to the top of Saint Paul's? Stunning views.
Potter round a market.

I would eat lovely food and read a whole book. That's all!

Fairenuff · 03/11/2016 22:38

I can't imagine having a day off and not telling dh. I would want to talk about my day and what I did. No way would I feel like I had to be doing anything else and neither would he.

Tarttlet · 03/11/2016 22:46

Couldn't you just tell your DH and insist that you have a day for yourself? I'd be pretty confused if I found out that my DP had a day off and didn't mention what he'd been doing.

Fairenuff · 03/11/2016 22:56

What will you say if he asks how your day was? Will you lie to him?

Tate Modern followed by a walk over the bridge to St Pauls. Grab some lunch and sit appreciating the architecture. Walk/tube across to Leicester Square via The British Museum. From Leicester Square, walk through Picadilly Circus and up Regent Street to Libertys. Loose yourself in there lustung after everything in sight then have a lovely afternoon tea.

Bliss.

If you go to the V&A or any of the South Ken museums I would also suggest treating yourself to a cupcake nearby at the Hummingbird Cafe and/or scones at the Ampersand Hotel - both delicious!

clmustard · 04/11/2016 11:35

Decided on the tate and the v&a if I can squeeze it in.

It's not dh problem really. He wouldn't be angry with me for having a day to myself but I have issues with feeling like I have disappointed anyone. I am working on it. But it is my issue rather than his.

I love the museum of London, the Courtauld collection in Somerset House, small enough to really appreciate the artwork, and the Wallace Collection (Near Baker St)
I am retiring in January and I intend to have a day in London each month!

Crochet they do adults only evenings at the science museum and I believe the nhm now! I went to a science museum late many many moons ago and it was awesome

that sounds good - I haven't been since I was a student. I am very tied to school schedules, so hard to fit in times when children aren't there, so adults only days would be useful, especially during the holidays.

clmustard · 04/11/2016 12:04

It is normally a midweek evening. Once a month I think

I am doing that today.

I have a day off but haven't told anyone - no reason, it just didn't come up.

I've been for a swim, now I'm eating chocolate and MNing and I'm going to go for a cycle after lunch.

Oysterbabe · 04/11/2016 12:06

Why does it have to be a secret?
I'd just tell DH I needed to use a flex day and planned to have the day to myself. There's something a bit wonky in your relationship if you can't do that.

clmustard · 04/11/2016 23:07

I went to tate Britain (went on one of the tours thanks for the suggestion) went to the gym and went for a lovely meal with a friend.

Dh knew about meal for some time.

It was lovely. Very ready for my bed now though

If you like science but want a more adult museum than the science museum, try the Wellcome Collection. It's near Kings Cross, exhibitions are great and change regularly. The whole area around Kings Cross is transformed, check out granary square for lunch.

FleurThomas · 04/11/2016 23:19

I do this regularly. Call it my mental health day. Usually spend the day visiting various art galleries in London, or window shopping/sight seeing.
