To be annoyed by my AA renewal letter?

Every year my AA renewal comes through with a big increase and I have to phone up and negotiate, It is really starting to piss me off.

In addition, the so called discounts seem to get more complicated each year. There is an "offer" on the renewal which now that I have fully understood it blatantly penalises those that take no action and just let the renewal go through as is. This seems disrespectful to the customer to me.

My renewal letter gives £197 for roadstart, home start and relay, which I can reduce to £148 with the "offer".

If I choose to leave out relay I can reduce the cost to £93.

How much do others pay? Am I being unreasonable to find the AA's methods annoying?

I don't know if this will help but I've had this with my car and home contents insurance. I phoned up, said the premium was too high and what could they do about it. They reduced it. Next year, the same thing happened. So I said, "look, I WILL phone up each year and query this, it's just a waste of my time and yours. Can you put a note on my file to send me a sensible quote next year"

I've no idea if they did, but I did get a sensible quote the following year.

As for the AA - yes, other providers are cheaper, but I do think you get the best service from the AA. They have their own mechanics. But they do overcharge massively.

I wish I could just get AA level of service on a fully pay-as-you basis. I have a new car and nowadays do neligible mileage, so virtually no chance I will have to call anyone out. Even £40 a year feels too expensive given how unlikely it is I will need it. But I still want the comfort of carrying a number with me that I can call in an emergency.

I did find one breakdown service that operates this way, but as they don't even send out email confirmation that you've registered with them, let alone a letter in the post, I'm not confident that I'm on their books, no matter how often I type my details into their app or web site.

I'm the same and switch every year using quidco to get cashback. ..rediculous way to have to do it but there you go!

Just had this with RAC £169 to renew family policy with a £5 "discount". Did online quote with green flag for £89. Called RAC to cancel and they miraculously matched the price Hmm
Why not just give me that price to start with and save everyone the hassle. I told them next year I wouldn't bother negotiating if the price went up and would just switch.
