Just that really, I do appreciate there is sometimes a pressure to take part in halloween even if you dont like it, and that must be incredibly annoying. We had 13 about, tricko'treaters . Ive always taught my children the rule of thumb if theres something Halloweeny in the window you can knock if not then leave them alone, cant go too far wrong with that I dont think, bar one little boy who grabbed about 5 things in one go, Hmm they were all lovely and said thankyou if not prompted by parents, we have have neighbours who do an incredible halloween display in their garden for charity fundraising every year its always brilliant and the local newspaper always comes, just lovely halloweeness all round, Roll on Halloween 2017 ...hope you all had a good time...

Up until a few years ago I was definitely not in favour of all this halloween nonesense but then I am a grumpy cow.

However, where we currently live lots of people decorate their houses, dress up, parents take children trick or treating. It's now one of my favourite nights of the year- the whole community seems to come out together for an hour or two. There's an unwritten rule that children only knock on doors where the house is decorated and I've only ever encountered polite children at my door. The whole thing is over by about 8pm so no late night noise and I've never seen any anti-social/inappropriate behaviour from those taking part. I'm converted.

I've loved it the last couple of years. I'm also on the London/Surrey borders and live in an area with lots of families. All out in little groups, very polite and all over by 8pm.

Lovely atmosphere and something to look forward to next year.

We only had nice trick or treaters too and it was all over by 8pm. I put quite a bit of effort into decorating the house this year and my teen had fun handing out the sweets all dressed up. Lots of the kids said they loved my decorations and laughed at my teen which was sweet. I would say that it's the only annual community event around here.

I'm in Canada and couldn't have had a nicer group of polite, happy, sweet and brilliantly dressed Trick or Treaters. My neighbours made sure that DD had a little bag especially for her with her name and stickers on it.

I got to talk to the lovely man around the corner with the beautifully painted house. He makes such an effort and I got to tell him that we all enjoy it. Bumped into a mum from school who always blanks me and even she was lovely and chatty. And the hippies across the road, as usual, had the best organic fair trade chocolates (in Mummy's pile).

Love Halloween.
Lots of groups of kids all dressed up telling jokes, singing songs and poems. All polite and having to be told to take more than one sweet Smile

Ds got a bag of loot and had a nice time too, one of the mums does great decorations and involves the kids in something 'yeuky' before they get their sweets, she does it brilliantly, kids love it.

Only bad part is taking the decs down and putting them away for next year! Left half mine out cos it was raining and was too knackered to care. Back from shopping and dentist, sitting having a cuppa and house is a tip, decorations and shopping and washing everywhere, someone send domestic help! (Sometimes I wish I was a domestic goddess....meh, never gonna happen)

(OOOh and got another 'decoration' in the sale in B&Ms for next year Smile

It was very busy round our neighbourhood. We enjoyed it and there wasn't anyone too scary. DC's cousins were out last year and one guy in the estate scared the life out of all the local kids, it was really mean.

We had none last year as no decs but a single pumpkin got a couple of groups this year. Two things struck me though:

  • We offer a bowl of sweety things and young girls would grab a handful, going back for more if they deemed to not get enough first time
  • Parents seem to be driving around and just stopping outside decorated houses and dropping the kids off

Is this how it's done now??

It shouldn't be. Proffer bowl and child takes one and says thank you. Or you drop one into their bag/bucket. At the end of the night you get offered two or three!

We live in one of the 'roughest' areas in London: had lots of kids come round, all polite and no one knocked after 8pm

Even my DH enjoyed it and he's not a Halloween fan.

I love Halloween Grin

I agree, we had loads of trick or treaters, very polite, please and thank you, and did not grab sweets, took only one. Even refused when I offered more as I had loads, Haribo, Swizzles type sweets.

I went out with my DC last night on the road where I grew up (we've recently moved back), so it was a lovely, slightly mind-bending trip down memory lane. I got lots of hugs from old neighbours who recognised me, and DD1 was tired of hearing how like me she looks!

DH manned the door at home and said there was about 30 or 40 kids, all of them lovely.

Next year, I've decided to do a post-trick or treating party for some of the local kids. Bobbing for apples and such like, just to really go back to my childhood... Grin

We had a lovely Halloween too. Incredibly polite children who all wished everyone a happy Halloween, grateful parents, some amazing decorations in the houses and DD had a great time giving the sweets out. I will definitely dress up next year!

We had over 100. All polite and good natured. My dc loved it. Everyone was in a Xmas goodwill type fettle.

Roll on next year!

We didn't get any trick-or-treaters

We moved recently from a main road to a quiet little cul-de-sac and despite our pumpkins outside nobody came to knock Sad

I feel quite left out now Wink
