Boots advantage card

GipsyDanger · 31/10/2016 16:15

I've recently been shopping in boots for the past few months due to ds (handy for bits and bobs all in the one place) and had raked up an impressive £4 to spend in the advantage points thing. So I have about £15 worth of assorted stuff and hand over my card to use the points then debit card for the rest. The boots assistant says the transaction has to be the same value or less. So only about £2 odd of my goods went on the rewards card. AIBU That this is a really stupid and awkward way to go about things. Thanks boots, I'll be sure to use my awesome points when I need a stick of gum Angry

DAMMIT one day I will remember how to do an amusing strikethrough.

Believeitornot · 31/10/2016 17:06

I thought boots had reduced the number of points per £ spent.

That whole idea of not being able to use it for part of a transaction is incredibly annoying and makes no sense. I don't bother collection with boots anymore (lost my card and can't be faffed to get another) because I don't want to buy something little and it takes ages to save for something expensive (e.g. Perfume).

Manumission · 31/10/2016 17:06

😄. Double dashes susan

londonrach · 31/10/2016 17:09

Thats how the card works in boots. It adds up quickly but has to be used for full. Purchase. Superdrug can be used for part purchase

hollyisalovelyname · 31/10/2016 17:18

Boots can be a lot more expensive for some toiletries than say, Tesco.
You have to be a canny shopper.

harderandharder2breathe · 31/10/2016 17:25

Yabu, this has always been the case

Boots is the best value reward card I know of, no limits of how much or how little you can spend on it (can use it for a 15p packet of paracetamol)

GipsyDanger · 31/10/2016 17:29

It doesn't help that it's mostly formula I go in for and small bits and bobs that go along with it. But I will actually properly look and the vouchers they send and download the app.

I like Boots card. Used to acquire points very fast, when our sons were little , and we were in their Baby Club, or whatever it was called. I usually have enough points by the end of the year to buy foodie gifts or perfume at Christmas. A pity you cannot swap the points for the gift cards, that would have been fab.

Janey50 · 31/10/2016 17:30

This is why I don't bother with Boots much nowadays. Used to mightily piss me off that you had to have goods to the exact value of the points on the card, and couldn't pay for part of your stuff with points and cash/card for the rest. I don't know of any other shops that impose this rule, even Tesco's,who never normally miss an opportunity to wield their 'power'.

OlennasWimple · 31/10/2016 17:30

and no annoying exchanging points for vouchers

purpleprincess24 · 31/10/2016 17:34

I save mine up and around once a year I manage to get some perfume

Piscivorus · 31/10/2016 17:49

I use Boots less and less as their stock is increasingly available elsewhere much cheaper. I'll have a look at Christmas for the 3 for 2s but don't buy otherwise now

swinkle · 31/10/2016 17:49

I must be going crazy, I could have sworn that you used to be able to use your points as part payment... I thought I'd remembered doing that loads of times!! This is going back quite a few years, mind you, I know they don't now. :)

NapQueen · 31/10/2016 17:55

But the remainder of your points don't expire. So ok you've put 2 quid on your card. You still have the other 2.

hollyisalovelyname · 31/10/2016 20:31

The Boots points are to pay the customer back for buying ( more expensively) in Boots in the first place.
There ain't nothing for nothing.

Joolsy · 31/10/2016 20:53

"Boots is the best value reward card I know of, no limits of how much or how little you can spend on it (can use it for a 15p packet of paracetamol)"

I thought you had to spend at least £1. And even if you didn't, you can only claim 1 point if you spend 25p as it's 4 points per £. And lastly, you'll never find paracetamol for 15p in Boots!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 31/10/2016 21:04

No, they're 25p.

I save mine all year for a splurge too but often forget to check the app. Get irritated by the multiple transactions to use vouchers thing too.

autumnintheair · 31/10/2016 21:04

can someone tell me how much £180 pounds should translate into points - does 750 sound right?

Manumission · 31/10/2016 21:20

720

Manumission · 31/10/2016 21:21

I mean £180 spend = 720 standard advantage points autumn

GirlOverboard · 31/10/2016 21:21

Not as annoying as nectar where you can only spend them in your local sainsburys. We'd saved up £60 and were going to do our holiday food shop while we were away, but you can't use them in every store, just your local.

You can spend your Nectar points in any Sainsburys, so long as you've shopped there in the last 12 months. And there must be at least 24 hours between your first visit and when you redeem your points. It helps prevent people fraudulently spending your points, so it's a sensible rule.

RubyGoat · 31/10/2016 21:32

I've had at least £300 of stuff from Boots bought with the points in the past (I'm not a big spender by any means). I look out for the offers etc & only buy from there when it's best / equal value, or when they offer a big incentive on points. Use the app & keep an eye on prices, some things are ridiculous & some are bargainous. And only spend the points as a treat (or when you're utterly flat broke).

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 31/10/2016 21:36

I didn't know that about the Nectar points, but I never redeem them directly, I either use them in the double up points promotion or on days out, cinema tickets or whatever. The double up points promotion (due in the next couple of weeks) is brilliant, I usually save about £60 worth of Nectar points for it and walk out with £120 worth of household goods, books and clothes for free.

Manumission · 31/10/2016 21:41

It's an annoying rule when your local satin is is grocery only and you want so spend your loot on other lines.

GirlOverboard · 31/10/2016 22:52

In that case you go to customer services, they put you on the phone to Nectar, you give the answer to a couple of security questions and your card will be authorised to use in store immediately. Takes 5 minutes.
