To change baby after every 'wet fart'

Newborn poops about 10 times a day. I usually change her every feed, tho if she has wind I'll change her again (sometimes two / three times if I'm up with her and she won't settle after feeding during the night). Husband thinks I should just put on cream and leave her unless lots of poop, and not disturb her so much. I don't know what's best to do - just wish she'd sleep without the near 2 hour episodes of rocking / feeding / changing at night!

"Poo yes, wee no"

You didn't change for wees?

I can't imagine sitting in wet pants and I know nappies absorb most of it but the thought of leaving my baby wet horrifies me.

Mind my sister did this too. She didn't go through half as many nap[pies as I did. maybe I'm just a bit neurotic about changing Grin

Yes wind with a bit of pop needs changing. Even that tiny bit of poo can start off nappy rash if left. Carry on op you are doing fine.

This drove me mad when my 4.5 month old was newborn. I was changing her constantly (one day we went through over 20 nappies!) and she still had awful nappy rash. It didn't go until she stopped pooing with every feed, which was at about 7 or 8 weeks. I felt so horrible about the state of her bum.

husband thinks I should just put on cream and leave her

Tell your husband he's wrong, very, very wrong!

eggyface · 31/10/2016 19:23

It's going to get easier very soon. Til then you are a feed and nappy machine and just have to lean into it. Tbh even if you weren't changing her you'd probably have 2hr rocking sessions ...hang in there. And congrats on your new baby x

My nephew pooed about ten times a day. Turned out he had a cows milk protein allergy. Worth getting checked?

Kellygos89 · 11/04/2020 21:56

Let her sleep ? Are you ok? You can’t leave her like that her bum will be red raw in morning

NoveltyFunsies · 11/04/2020 21:57

@kellygos89 are YOU ok? Pretty sure the OP will have changed the nappy by now seeing as this thread is from 2016Hmm

Kellygos89 · 11/04/2020 22:05

I know right hahahahaha I’m fine me love .... just wanted to put my 2pence in hahaha

Curiosity101 · 11/04/2020 22:09

I only ever changed my baby before a feed or if he did a 'proper' poop. Like your DH I just applied a decent amount of Sudocrem every time I changed him. He never had nappy rash and if he'd shown any signs of it I'd have started changing him more regularly, but I didn't see the point in disturbing him for the sake of it.

Curiosity101 · 11/04/2020 22:10

Oh wow facepalm didn't notice the original date.

Kellygos89 · 11/04/2020 23:06

My 2 year old is going through the same thing at the minute that’s how I found this page from googling . My daughter has such a sore bum and as she sees the nappy she’s had the biggest meltdown and won’t let me near her. Its breaking my heart and I put creams on to. But every nappy change shes got a like a skid mark so I feel like heartbroken and can’t leave her sitting in her own poop so have to change but it’s really getting me down now and sure it is my baby girl too 😔

KimchiLaLa · 11/04/2020 23:34

Yes, unfortunately but you must. Their little bums get very sore, especially when they are so young.
