DP keeps telling friends we want their used baby clothes....I don't! This is our first baby, we can afford clothes & already have a lot in...
AIBU or totally spoilt..?

I still buy plenty of clothes by the way, I'm not pretending to be Miss Frugal. I find it convenient to have lots of choice and to be able to leave clothes in the cars/changing bag/grandma's/nursery etc. I could manage on hand me downs alone, but I will buy things I like.

We got handed loads of used baby and small child clothes when our DC were small. We knew a couple of families where they had a girl followed by boys and we were the other way around so we did get given loads of stuff suitable for DD.

We bought some stuff ourselves too but the way we looked at it was that, because we were spending less on the everyday stuff, if we saw something really nice we would get it ourselves. So DD had a couple of Monsoon dresses while she was still small that otherwise we wouldn't have felt we could justify.

Decent, affordable second hand clothes for kids are manna from heaven!

Little darlings grow so damn quick it's far better economically. Once the novelty of having a new baby in nice new clothes wears off and the grim reality of chucking away brand new clothes with holes/stains sets in, it gets more appealing to use hand me downs.

Accept them gratefully! You might not want them now but may feel differently when they're older or you have another dc. We don't really have anyone handing stuff down to us, but I wish we did as we could save a fortune. I buy a mixture of new and second hand clothes for my two. I'm selling at a sale this weekend and hoping to do some buying too- I always buy shoes new but everything else I get what I can second hand. Right now my two need Winter shoes, wellies, night clothes, snow suits and ds needs jeans, jumpers, tops, vests in the next size up. If I need to bh it all new it will cost hundreds and hundreds of pounds.

Oh yes...I totally forgot the point of the thread. Of course you should accept them if DP has asked for them. He should have a say too.

My post has vanished! Hopefully two don't appear now...

We could afford new stuff but I accepted hand me downs and even bought a 'bundle' of vests off ebay. Waste is not to be encouraged but vests can almost be viewed as disposable items in the first couple of months - there can be poo stains that simply do not wash out! Good to accept a supply of essential items, even if you end up using them as spares. Also, you do run the risk of your friends thinking you are snubbing their offer, especially if they needed to get things second hand.

If your dc ends up at nursery as well its always good to have tee shirts and leggings that you don't mind if they get ruined after one wear.
