To not get why so many adults love Hallowe'en

What is there to love about grotesque skeletons and blood-soaked zombies?

I agree... each to their own... celebrate it if it's your thing. BUT I honestly don't think anyone, young or old, should be knocking on anyone's door, unless you are knocking to turn up for a party! I think all that should be stopped. Have a laugh, have a party, have family round, dress up if you want, but don't go knocking on people's doors.

I totally disagree with this helping to talk about death and dying. I would not want my DCs equating halloween to dying, it's scary costumes, evil, zombies, blood dripping.... that is not a gentle way to talk about death and dying.

It wasnt originally a church festival either.
All Hallows Day wasnt initially 1st November. It was switched to that to 'christianise' samhaim and other pagan festivals. Just like the church did with Xmas and Easter.

Its origins go way further back than the 8th century.

Not massively keen, although I quite like carving the pumpkin and decorating the window. Dd will go trick or treating as it's a big thing in this village. Hallowe'en just didn't happen when I was a child, so I find it a bit puzzling as an adult.

I was never that keen until we moved to our village. I always thought it was tantamount to begging but here it's a pretty big thing; along with our summer fete week and the turning on of the Christmas lights, it's a big community event and it seems like almost everyone joins in.

People who don't want to be bothered put signs on their doors and it's generally accepted that one only ever knocks on doors that have decs up anyway. It's all very lovely and there are never any tricks, only treats.

We are always out and about so we leave a big bowl of sweets and cookies on the doorstep; the kids in our village are so lovely that last year, we came back to a bowl full of different sweets where others had left us treats too!

Highlight of the season for us, but I guess it can depend on what sort of community you live in.

I hate it. I refuse to open the door on the 31st. One of my friends spends weeks preparing for it his house is mad by the time he's done. I just don't get the appeal but to each their own. Just DO NOT ask me to dress up

We've booked a caravan with full on Halloween entertainment and a fancy dress party on Saturday. I think I've lost my marbles :o

Have you all recoiled in horror?? :o
