to not have oven gloves or tea towels that match the kitchen

Well to sone extent they match - old and a bit tatty, like the kitchen.
But it never occurred to me that even when we replace the kitchen we'd get oven gloves and tea towels to match. I've just discovered this is a thing, thanks to mn.

My DH has display teatowels that I'm not allowed to use that match the colour scheme we have going on in the kitchen and lounge. The teatowels I'm allowed to use live in a drawer. He's had them since before we met, so over 3 years now, they're looking a bit faded and shit.

Probably. I, on the other burnt hand, am a clumsy clot.

As my oven glove is silicone and lime green am not sure what it would match!

StealthPolarBear · 22/10/2016 21:42

A lime?

DM has a fully coordinating kitchen, fridge, kettle, microwave, tea towels, pots (sugar etc), bread bin, bin, washing up bowl, dish rack etc. The only thing not colour coordinated is the washing machine and she complains about it regularly. If there is a tiny stain on a tea towel people five doors down probably know about it!

Only a couple of bits in our kitchen match but it vaguely ties in and it doesn't bother me. I like cosy clutter, probably rebelling against DM's show home dream. I do like my spice rack to be matching jars and organised though. It is a work in progress but the matching shelves give me warm fuzzies. Blush

My tea towels would have to be made of wood to match my kitchen.

I have tea towels with the utility mark on them. When my Grandmother died about 20 years ago there was a cupboard stacked to the rafters with never used tea towels, sheets, table cloths etc. They are indestructible! For some reason she turned sheets to the middle when they wore thin, then cut them up as dish cloths and tea towels. Not short of money but old habits die hard I guess.

Very!

I have tea towels with the utility mark on them.

I went to uni in the early '90s with utility mark bedsheets. I'm glad it's not just my family.

I don't even have matching plates

bloodyteenagers · 23/10/2016 17:17

I don't own an oven glove.
the only thing that matches in my kitchen is the cupboard doors. Cutlery is mismatched. Cups. Plates. Glasses. Bowls. Pans. Dishes. Sharp knifes. Utensils. Electricals. Occasionally things will match like the plates etc, and then breakages happen. The none broken stuff is saved, and eventually another set is bought and the cycle continues.

We have Royal tea towels. My stepmum bought them for me at a car boot sale. Not sure why but we do get some comments when visitors spot the faces of Charles and Diana hanging on the hook.
