The 'yes' vote for the next Scottish independence vote should be to remain in the UK

The leavers got the yes last time, I think its only fair that remain should get Yes for the next time.

The Scottish parliament have released drafts for the vote and yes is to leave again - www.gov.scot/Resource/0050/00507743.pdf

So the question should be 'should Scotland remain in the U.K.'?
I think that's fair. But it might confuse some people.

TheLambShankRedemption · 20/10/2016 18:46

I guess independence is the SNP's reason for existing so they'd want the positive connotation of the word 'yes' as their own.

You have zero chance of winning this change IMHO although I can see your point.

jdoe8 · 21/10/2016 12:08

That's right han, I think its pretty fair seeing as the SNP had the positive word last time. It's up to the UK parliament to give the right to vote isn't it? So Mrs May should be strong unlike Cameron and demand that remain has the Yes this time.

I agree - only fair Grin

MrsJayy · 21/10/2016 13:11

I think we are all referendumed out tbh when I saw this on the news i felt like sinking to my knees and doing the dramatic nooooo Nicola not again.

wasonthelist · 21/10/2016 13:13

Why not just stay or leave? No need for Yes/No.

Oysterbabe · 21/10/2016 13:19

I for one hope Scotland get their 2nd referendum and gain independence. I was glad they stayed last time but I would vote for independence now in their place. The rest of us on this shitty little island are doomed to Brexit and if there was any possibility of escaping it I'd take it.

BecauseIamabear · 21/10/2016 13:19

Can we English have a vote on whether we want Scotland to stay part of the UK?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/10/2016 13:20

"Why not just stay or leave? No need for Yes/No."

^^this x 100

It's only fair to have totally unbiased wording, so that neither side can associate themselves with the positive choice and gain an unfair advantage that way. I also think that a minimum threshold (like maybe 60%) and minimum turnout should be required for such a major decision because otherwise we end up with the kind of divided society that we're already dealing with after the last Indyref and Brexit.

Ameliablue · 21/10/2016 13:25

Becauseiamabear no but you could vote England leaving the uk

SirChenjin · 21/10/2016 13:37

Me too Mrs - and all the polls are saying the same thing. Nicola seems to pick and choose which bits of 'the will of the Scottish people' she listens to and which bit she ignores though.

jdoe8 · 21/10/2016 14:52

Stay / leave would also be a good idea.

Nicola was always going to do it, I'm glad its sooner rather than later tbh. This time it should have a no more vote in living memory.

sirchenjin I really canae be arsed with it,

MrsJayy · 21/10/2016 16:30

Was meant to be a once in a generation Referendum but never again sounds better.

BuntyCollocks · 21/10/2016 16:53

I voted no in 2014. I wanted to stay part of the uk due to the implications of our membership of the eu if we left.

I'm behind Nicola all the way this time. I want to be part of the EU, and I have no chance being a Brit. We may still not be able to be part of the union if we gain independence, but we'd have the chance.

Also, the anti immigration rhetoric in the rest of the uk really puts me off remaining. Really opened my eyes.

SirChenjin · 21/10/2016 17:01

I'm igenuinely curious - how can anyone say that they are definitely on one side or the other while there is so much uncertainty around what a UK outside the EU will look like, or what an indy Scotland within the EU (if indeed we would gain immediate entry) will look like? I will need far more information before I commit to a Yes/No in a future indy referendum.

Beebeeeight · 21/10/2016 17:17

Scotland is basically split into 4:

Indy Scotland not in EU

Indy Scotland in the EU

Scotland in UK and the EU

Scotland in the UK and not in the UK

I'd like to know how many are in each of these 4 categories.

KatoPotato · 21/10/2016 17:21

There would be a lot of folk needing new window adornments and car stickers!

love it

SirChenjin · 21/10/2016 17:21

I agree Bee. I'd also like to know what each of these mean for Scotland from a social, economic and political perspective.
