To rather say "you were wronged" officially than wipe history records

I know campaigners have worked to get these people cleared but by wiping records they are also wiping evidence of how these men were treated.

As George says later on, he would like an official apology.

I have mixed feelings about this - completely agree it should never have been illegal, and those who have convictions should have them 'undone' in one way or another. And I get the difference between a 'pardon' (you did something wrong but we forgive you) and saying that you didn't do anything wrong in the first place.

However, the past is littered with laws that we now consider obnoxious - witchcraft for example. And who knows what laws we have now (and are generally accepted) will be looked at in horror in future.

In practice, saying 'these laws were wrong' and then trying to undo any continuing effects (such as wiping convictions from the records of people who are still alive) seems reasonable to me.
