to walk for a 5 minute journey

We realised half way through dinner we were out of rice. I offered to pop to the local shop to get some and my wife agreed but then said "but you have to drive" (this wasn't out of the blue, we've had this debate before). I said I'd walk because it's only 5 minutes (literally a 5 minute walk round trip - I checked my watch on the way home today to make sure and it took about 2 minutes, you can see the shop car park from our driveway), and she said she'd just go herself then (& drive), I went anyway and she continued insisting I drive while I put my shoes on left even shouting after me as I left "are you going to drive then".
AIBU to think you don't need to drive if you can walk there and back in less than 5 minutes?

I'm just wondering what kind of curry would be entirely ruined if the rice was put on 8 1/2 mins late rather than 6 1/2 mins late....

OP yanbu there is no need to drive when the walking distance is less than 5 mins. I think it takes longer to faff with keys and reversing and lights and junctions...

Ifoundry - Sweet Potato?

To be fair there aren't many junction (1) - it is a minute or 2 quicker to drive I just prefer to walk.

Curry wouldn't get cold as you'd just leave it cooking on a low heat.

If in a massive hurry you could've bought a couple of packs of microwave rice. One off, ready in 2 minutes.

YANBU. Wasting fuel is helping Putin's Russia and nasty regimes such as Saudi Arabia. The exercise helps too.

tibbawyrots · 19/10/2016 21:01

Is your wife anxious about anything? It does seem an odd thing to fixate on especially with curry when you can turn the heat off when it's done!

When i take my kids to school i walk past a family just loading their kids into the car its literally around the corner and we arrive at the same time i then walk past their house just as they are pulling up coming back from the school run , its no quicker if its just a short journey

BlancheBlue · 19/10/2016 21:08

Sounds lazy and controlling to be honest and little short journeys burn fuel and are bad for wear on the car.

Yes you should have run there! YWNBU but I get the stress of running out of ingredients so I don't think she WBU either.

As a student (and I do stress this) I once realised that I had no rice whilst cooking a curry.

My solution was to serve in on corn flakes.

It seemed a good idea at the time.

booklooker As a current student I find that to be a genius idea. Also cheese slices go great if you've got no proper cheese to grate on a bolognese. Grin
