Due to ill health I am having to use them.

Several issues have occurred and whenever I've called helpline they have been rude, obstructive and frankly useless!

Tonight I tried to order a delivery and it said my payment was declined by bank. I called bank they say no payment authorised. Called helpline, they refused to accept it was their fault and tried blaming me/the bank. Were again rude, obstructive and then hung up on me!

I absolutely CANNOT afford to be paying twice and waiting weeks (months) for a refund!

Advice? (Using someone else, shopping in person are not options unfortunately).

can you get a different bank account?
do they accept pay pal?

graphista · 19/10/2016 07:40

I think changing bank account would be extreme considering I've had good service from the bank and it works for me on every other score! Plus locally tesco not good service.

I used to have a hideous time with asda where I used to live (admittedly 5 years ago). Usually would have missing goods - like nappies....not substituted and urgent as I was stuck in a flat with small baby.

They also never came when they said amd I'd be waiting up til 11 wondering at what point I could go to bed but also really needing the delivery just to find out it wasn't coming....

Honestly we were struggling so much financially but future me would look back to then and say the stress wasn't worth it and it would have been worth ordering elsewhere.

Love the ocado suggestions though, hardly likely if trying to shop cheaply!

NoahVale · 19/10/2016 07:42

perhaps the problem Is your bank account?

although you say they are rude and hang up on you.

graphista · 19/10/2016 07:42

Just checked - no to PayPal, there's also a fair long list of cards they won't accept!

OP posts:
graphista · 19/10/2016 07:45

This is first time it's been a payment problem. Previously it's been substitutions issues, late deliveries, website down etc.

TreehouseTales · 19/10/2016 08:08

Yeah that sounds about right, go elsewhere. Used to keep hoping it was a one off...

graphista · 19/10/2016 08:09

How do they keep this area profitable with such poor service?

FloppyRagdoll · 19/10/2016 09:39

Which bank is it? I am in Scotland and have accounts with three different Scottish banks (bit bonkers, but just the way things have panned out) and have never had my cards refused by Asda.

dementedpixie · 19/10/2016 09:43

Is it an electronic card? A lot of places don't accept them. Could you see if your bank will issue you a different debit card?

dementedpixie · 19/10/2016 09:43

Electron *

Soubriquet · 19/10/2016 09:44

We use sainsburys and it's fab

Not that expensive either.

pipsqueak25 · 19/10/2016 09:44

heck, i must be incredibly lucky, never had any problems with asda in the years i've used them, always found subs are okay [although they are very few] and customer service on the rare occasion i've need to call have been on the ball and getting it sorted.

Nefney14 · 19/10/2016 09:55

Good luck trying to get anywhere with them! I had an order delivered where not one meat item had more than a days life on it! Phoned them spoke to someone who told me I'd be refunded he'd processed it bla bla bla 2 weeks later no refund so I phone again and they tell me the refund had not been processed and that they'd do it then. Then another 2 weeks passed still no refund! I phoned again and the person I spoke to was ridiculously rude! Laughed when I told her I wanted to speak to a manager and hung up. So I emailed their complaints email address and waited for a reply nothing came. I eventually set up a Twitter account to message them and after a few days they messaged me and processed the refund I recieved it and it was the wrong amount! Less that I should have got at that point I accepted the loss and gave up! I really hope you get a better response than I did.

SistersOfPercy · 19/10/2016 10:14

Have you actually used them? Only they price match Tesco these days, if they are more expensive you're given a voucher. I can count on one hand how many I've had this year.

I've used them weekly for 4 years and still don't find them expensive.

NoahVale · 19/10/2016 10:21

i must admit my last order had salad with that day's best before date so i just go to My Orders and ask for a refund, I got a refund for the salad and also some cakes which only had a few days. no quibble. i dont deal with people by phone, just use the web set up for refunds

MassDebate · 19/10/2016 10:23

I posted on here recently as they charged DBro several times for his shopping, leaving him overdrawn and unable to pay bills. They were fucking useless at sorting it out - it took weeks of complaining and to-ing and fro-ing between Asda and his bank before he was finally refunded. Asda lied about it to the bank too and tried to say he'd received the goods so no refund was due. Good thing he had proof in writing from the shits that they'd cocked up. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now.

ayeokthen · 19/10/2016 10:23

I've used them for 3 years, I find in the event of a major fuck up that the call centre/store are useless. They don't like being called out on Twitter though, it usually makes them shift to get a problem sorted.

Saffronesque · 19/10/2016 10:26

Have found both Asda & Tesco to be very poor but Asda much worse. Substitution & quality probs galore.

I switched to ocado with a £40 off first shop offer & pay £27 odd for unlimited mid week deliveries for a year; they price check everything & if it is cheaper elsewhere by a bit they send me a voucher. Recently I bought a lot of specific items for a hospice (think 20 each of 5 items)& it would have been a couple of £ cheaper at Tesco so they sent an apology & a £10 voucher!!

Also they do a thing when you checkout where you are offered overstocks at reduced price 10 items, & you can order as much as your freezer can take, 2 to 3 days pre delivery. Think half price leg of lamb or salmon or eg hovis wholemeal 800gm loaf at 60p or big bag of pedigree dry dog food.
Sometimes it's just getting shoot of seasonal stuff like Halloween Mr kiping, half price.

They almost never substitute & if you're not wedded to a particular brand, it's easy to order special offers & come out much cheaper than Tesco etc. I've only had a more expensive shop twice including hospice shop, & I do shop @ Asda & Tesco in store if I need a few bits, because I'd never ever get quality fruit & veg from them delivered.

Ocado on the other hand - if something gets a bit squashed by packing or don't look perfect, request a refund online & it's sorted. No sitting on the phone with bp rising or (asda) staff accusing you of lieing!
Finally, they make me very happy by sending me a choice of wines every year in my birthday month!

They do lots of other stuff that you can have delivered with your order - they have a pet store & a home store & a techy gadget store all on their website so more like an online department store, but with amazing service and no quibbling, just very can do.

Infinitely better than waitrose & far more variety eg French groceries; Swedish food; USA specialities; organic veg boxes, but apart from the waitrose essentials they undercut them often with their ocado brand stuff, which is a little hit and miss, but their completely open reviewing system works better even than amazon from my pov, as if somebody happened to be sent a free sample -yup, you often get free samples sent - & thought the sample was s**t, they can & do say so freely.
I have used Tesco asda waitrose sainsburys & ocado, especially with the multiple vouchers & free delivery pass you often get with eg Tesco over the last 13 years & I'm sticking with ocado now for the foreseeable. Can't be doing with hassle.

graphista · 19/10/2016 13:12

Ok still nothing from asda! I did a direct comparison based on this week's basket, 1.24 difference which really isn't much! I adjusted for size difference and ignored temporary offers.

Areyoufree · 19/10/2016 13:31

Asda are appalling. We used to use them, but the fruit and vegetables were always close to being ready for the bin. The final straw was a bag of flour which was full of some kind of insects, and when I checked its best before date, was over 5 months out of date! I complained, they were pretty rude, and only offered to refund the cost of the flour - they didn't seem concerned that they were delivering seriously expired food. Would never use them again.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/10/2016 15:18

I use asda a lot, also use sainsbury, tesco and occasionally waitrose. IMO based on my experience for payment, information, delivery, subs, and staff sainsbury comes top, asda second, waitrose then tesco. I have had good customer service from all (apart from waitrose as never used it) sainsbury is the most generous, tesco the friendliest over the phone, so all in all never really had that much to complain about with any of them.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 19/10/2016 15:20

Never had a problem with Asda. I have had issues with Ocado and Sainsbury

YouTheCat · 19/10/2016 15:27

I have a Sainsbury's order due in 30 minutes.

I find the quality good. They issue e vouchers if you receive a more expensive sub. Plus I do the occasional survey and get extra Nectar points. Last weekend, if I spent £10 or more, I could swipe my card to win between 200 and 5,000 extra points. I won 2,000 which equates to £10.

I save up the points and use them for yummy things at Christmas.

PersianCatLady · 19/10/2016 15:35

Never had a problem with Asda
Me neither but had major problems with Tesco like not ordering a £300 on NYE, taking the payment and the store closed early.
