I haven't a clue what my boy's aged 11 and 12 should/could be doing after school!! They get home at 3.30, my 11yr old puts on pjs straight away but bedtimes at 9.... Seems to be tv, ps4, iPad etc.... Seems such a waste of their time/life or AIBU!!??

Ok so they do a sport one night after school which seems usual and more at weekends. They both gave up scouts, not interested in after school activities, tried all kinds of clubs and activities which they soon lost interest in that's even including modelling and TV work!!
They socialise with their friends via Skype, and they're not interested in playing down the park/street!

My eldest is 11, just started year 8 in September. She gets in at about 4.15. She does homework for around an hour, bit of extra work if she has projects, if she fancies it she calls round to see a friend for about an hour. She watches tv/Netflix/faffs about on her phone for a bit.

Once a week she stays late in school (until 5pm) to do a homework club and she does a sport one evening a week.

Home at 4, snacking & chatting till about 5, homework then supper at 6. Then TV, scouts, trampoline etc. Up at 8 for shower & usually in bed by 8.30

When I'm at home with my boys and not working we head to the beach for a wander. Sometimes we take a ball. In summer we might take wood etc, build a fire and take a BBQ.

Other days they head to the park (next door) and hang out with their mates, skate, kick a ball, that kind of thing. Or, if raining, watch YouTube.

Otherwise we are found at the rugby club, training or watching the other brother train. Or we go to the gym, workout, have a swim together.

We do quite a bit after school I think, there isn't a lot of time to fit it all in. I am making the most of it before homework gets serious...

my ds is in year 7. He gets home from school around 4pm. tea is around 5ish. he has quite a lot amount of screen time, but he has learning difficulties and finds school exhausting, so I'm not about to force him to read when its not pleasurable for him. He likes to draw/build lego so will do a lot of that.

They should be doing some kind of chore too. They're old enough to start learning to take care of themselves. Loading the dishwasher, putting the dishes away, etc.

Feeling happier now reading the comments. I'm assuming I make it too easy for them at home.. So chores and strict homework routine ahead.. I'm assuming they might make a bit more effort to live if home isn't so dossy!!

My Y8 does:

After school clubs
Homework (though tends to save it for weekends)
Chat to mates via Whatsapp/Snapchat/Skype
Physically "hang out" with friends (though this is decreasing as the nights get colder and darker)
We still read together twice a week
Sometimes family board game
I would not be happy with non-stop tech stuff from 3.30 to bedtime.

Very interesting.
Mine at year 7 and 11.
Get Home at 4.40ish. Then finish any homework.
Get bag ready for the next day.
Change. Sometime they get straight into pjs. But mostly lounge wear.
Dishwasher, tidy, any mini jobs.
Dinner.
We watch a box set all together.
Chat and iPad time.
Showers and bed at 8.15 ish and reading for a while.
