...to have blue hair as a doctor?

I got hidden rainbow hair while on maternity leave, and it was fab. When I went back to work, I dyed it back to a boring brown.

As a doctor, it's always been fairly accepted that you should dress conservatively, that it's not acceptable to have bright hair, visible tattoos, eccentric clothing etc. and I've always stuck to that. However, since going back, I've seen 6 other members of staff (non-doctors, but patient facing, nurses etc) with blue or vivid pink hair, it seems to becoming much more mainstream. My husbands non-medical colleagues were baffled that I would even consider going back to brown just to go back to work.

So, would I be unreasonable to have blue hair as a doctor? Is it socially acceptable yet?

QueenLiz. I am sorry that happened. Of course the nurse should have taken off her flashing antlers. She was unspeakably unprofessional.

I want hidden rainbow hair now. It's beautiful.

Someone in my office recently dyed their hair purple as a Prince tribute, so that's inspiring me to think about having a change from brown.

I wouldn't judge you, I'd just think how good it looked.

It depends on your patient group really. ..could be a problem in dementia setting. ..probably fine if you're a paediatrician...If That's a photo of yourself pretty unprofessional to out yourself on mum's net.

It wouldn't bother me. As long as you are good with your patients and have empathy that's all I'm bothered about when I see a gp.

Bloody hell this thread is depressing.
And let's not forget not so long ago it wasn't at all uncommon for elderly patients to say they didn't want black/foreign staff looking after them. They don't get to demand and deem who is right and acceptable to care for them to be honest and their prejudice should not be indulged

People that judge a person's capability by the colour of their hair are small minded fools
