To keep putting the duvet back over dd when she repeatedly kicks it off.

Dd is 3 this month and in a 'big girl' bed complete with a proper duvet.
She kicks it off repeatedly in her sleep and doesn't seem bothered or cold but I have to cover her over with it. I just can't leave her be. It's 22 degrees in her room tonight so not chilly but I couldn't sleep in that temp without being wrapped in a duvet.
Is she just too warm?

I worry about this with DS. He's 16 months and won't sleep under his blankets, even now that it's getting colder. I'm guessing that when he gets cold he will pull the blankets over himself, hopefully.

StrongTeaHotShower · 12/10/2016 21:31

I'm using myself as a benchmark. I feel the cold and 22 degrees still has me wrapped up under a duvet.

I was your daughters age during the winter of 62, when hit water bottles that fell out of bed were frozen by the morning. My mum put me to bed under blankets and that was that. We survived.....

HPandBaconSandwiches · 12/10/2016 21:32

Just turn the duvet the other way round (horizontally), tuck it in firmly under the mattress. If she wriggles out from under that it's because she's too hot rather than just wriggly!

Foggymist · 12/10/2016 21:34

Maybe she's kicking it off because she's fecking roasting under it in 22 degrees?? Why do you have to put it back on? Is she not able to pull it back up if she wakes and is cold?

StrongTeaHotShower · 12/10/2016 21:39

She's kicked it off again
and the temperature is actually 22.7

I've reluctantly left her uncovered.

Are you my DP?

I've been with him 20 years and he still covers my feet up in the middle of the night when I uncover myself in my sleep. He's weird like that.

I remember distinctly (DP disputes this) going on holiday somewhere with him and having twin beds, getting up to go the loo in the middle of the night and coming back to find he'd made my bed! I think it's his RAF training that does it.

Tootsiepops · 12/10/2016 21:49

StrongTea I am also obsessed with the grow egg the little fucker is never happy and the tog of my daughter's grow bag. It's 22 degrees in her room now with the window open. She's in a long sleeved vest and a 2 tog sleeping bag. We are in the south east and 22 degrees feels quite cold to me now after our house was generally about 26 degrees all summer.

StrongTeaHotShower · 12/10/2016 21:53

Ah tootsie you understand! In July the room wouldn't go below 28.

StrongTeaHotShower i have a gro egg aswell, our house is well insulated and always warm but for some reason dds room feels cold but the temp is 22 degrees. Dd always kicks the covers off and i put them back on, she just looks so vunerable and tiny (she's 2). I send her to bed in a vest and pjs, i know she's not cold but i can't help myself Grin

StrongTeaHotShower · 12/10/2016 22:11

Username, are you me? That's identical Grin

Leave the duvet off. My DD always kicks her off as well, it's how she gets comfortable.

22 is roasting, I could never sleep in that!

CurtainsforRonnie · 12/10/2016 22:17

Depends what tog the duvet is?

Tesco do some lovely very thin fleece baby blankets, that would be good.

Or you could use the Gro-to-bed range, its a sheet, pillow & cover all in one that zips together, so no falling out of bed or pulling off the covers. DD loves hers.

harverina · 12/10/2016 22:21

What tog is the duvet?

My dad is always warm and kicks off her duvet. I leave her in the evening but cover her when I go to bed because I worry she will be cold during the night.

Try a lower tog - 4tog is very light and may not bother her as much.

Usernameinvalid16 · 12/10/2016 22:21

StrongTea Grin it's hard to resist, i'm going to try and leave her uncovered tonight.

EvansAndThePrince · 12/10/2016 22:29

When it was 22 degrees in this house we slept in one thin layer! Crikey. It's now about 16 in the bedroom and she's in jammies and a 1tog bag, with the 4.5 duvet over her legs but I reckon she's probably a bit warm so I'm about to go take the duvet off Grin

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 12/10/2016 22:33

My daughter always did this
I solved the problem by getting double duvet covers and using a single duvet in in, placed in the middle of the cover, then a row of machine stitching running the length of the duvet cover either side of duvet.
You then have "flaps" on either side which can tuck under the mattress
It gives the security of it not moving but still enough wriggle room
No more far flung duvets!!

Peach9876 · 12/10/2016 22:44

I haven't slept under the quilt except twice (and then DP took it off me anyway...) since April. Still far too warm. DP has the quilt and has actually put the heating on. I keep waking up with a headache because it's so bloody hot and I'm probably dehydrated!

I do however have to be covered, which usually ends up in me wearing next to nothing and having a quilt cover (with no quilt in) or thin blanket. Otherwise I do feel exposed. Maybe take the quilt out of the cover, or have a few blankets sort of like they have in some hotels (and probably abroad).

WyfOfBathe · 12/10/2016 23:45

Could you just get her a thin blanket instead, so she's still cozy without the duvet?

She's big enough to pull the duvet back up if she gets too cold Smile, she won't freeze

ChickenVindaloo · 12/10/2016 23:58

Tuck the bottom of the duvet under the mattress. Then she can push it back if hot but it won't fall off completely if you see what I mean.

Foggymist · 13/10/2016 01:37

It's about 16 degrees in our room here, 1.5 year old is in long sleeve vest, onesie and that's it, he always angrily kicks off any covers.

Redglitter · 13/10/2016 01:41

You can't compare her to you. My mum sleeps with a heavy night dress and a 10 tog duvet. I sleep in summer pj's with a 1 tog duvet and my window open

If she's constantly kicking it off she's clearly too hot.

SomeonesRealName · 13/10/2016 01:52

My 3 yo sleeps with no duvet every night, I'm in the same bed huddled under the duvet. I've no idea what the room temperature is!

GreatFuckability · 13/10/2016 02:34

overheating kids is the worst thing you can do for kids. they don't need to be wrapped up like mummies! leave her alone.

Rozdeek · 13/10/2016 02:46

I am Confused at all these posters saying 22c is roasting, my room hasn't been less than 24 all summer (I'm in London) and it's been fine.

Currently 20c and it feels cold to me!
