At 4 it's fine, it isn't actually cold. My DS is only just 3 and could tell someone if he wanted his coat or if he was cold, do you have reason to believe he can't do this or was ignored?

I would be upset about this OP. in your situation, i would have a chat with the key worker about it.

I do wonder what people think will happen to their children if they are slightly chilly for 5 minutes...........

PopFizz · 11/10/2016 17:56

I did the school run in a jacket and scarf.

DS1 was in a short sleeved shirt. I couldn't believe he wasn't cold, but he assured me he wasn't (and was constantly running around tbf)

Unless he was shivering and complaining, yabu. It's been quite nice in the sun, especially when running around.

TBH most of the children where I work started off in coats and then dumped them after half an hour so today.
Just because you are cold it doesn't mean he was.
Most of the time, if a child refuses a coat on, to a a certain point we will allow them that choice, they will be running around and will be warm enough. Or they will realize it's cold once they are out and go back in to get it. Natural consequences.
Only if a child looked/felt cold would we insist they put one on or didn't come out.

I'd just ask them next time do they have to ask for their coats or do they get asked if they want them on. My sons peg was up quite high so he wouldn't have been able to get it himself.
There were days when it was quite warm and he would be outside in a coat and when I asked about it they said he had insisted on keeping it on!
