To feel really hard done by because I don't have a pet?

I love animals. I'd love to have a cat, or a dog (or both) and a horse.

However DH and I both work long hours with a long commute so we have accepted having a pet would not be practical. We both had cats and dogs in our families when we were growing up and I've had a horse on loan (one weekend day per week) although this has now come to an end, so we know how much time and attention animals need. We would only want to get an animal if we could look after it very well.

But I do feel like I'm missing out on something amazing, and that my life would be so much better with animals.

I know this is a first world problem, but just fancied a moan. Can anyone relate?

Yes! I think everyone who knows me realises how much I want a dog, but I just don't think it would be fair when DH and I both work full time.

I have very small, low maintenance pets instead (snails!), and I am very fond of them, and they add something to my life.

Could you adopt a pair of cats? Lots are in rescues that come together from their old home.
As long as they have toys and food water for the daytime they would be very happy?!

I agree with posters saying borrow my doggy and also with hamsters, also think about getting a better job that allows you to work from home for half the week and get a dog!!

I joined borrow my doggy but haven't found it much use. I work mon-fri 9-5 and those are the hours most needed.

Yanbu. I am desperate for a dog. I prefer them to people most of the time. But timing isn't right for us at the moment, so I just become crazy dog lady who talks to other people's dogs outside shops Grin
